Get the replacement mounting rings and maybe try your XL pads? - https://store.hifiman.com/index.php/earpad-mounting-rings.html

I’ve read that the Dekoni Hybrids make for a great comfort upgrade while retaining the sound signature. I would’ve tried them myself but I have thieves in my building

You’re probably not gonna be a fan of the rest of the hifiman lineup then. The Ed X v2s that I have have a bare driver (serenity pads) and aren’t much deeper than the sundara, if at all. Oh, and no real decent aftermarket pads for the he-1000/arya shaped cans either afaik.

How would you compare them to the Sundara’s?

I feel like if I were to upgrade then I’d get the LCD X or the Focal clear. Those two seem like direct upgrades to the sundara.

Better in every way lol. Ed X V2s are also more ‘fun’ sounding. Better bass, faster response, and slightly U shaped tuning.

I have the clears. That’s a big jump to a different type of can. Sundaras honestly have a bigger soundstage. They are also much more airy. Focal house sound is substantially different than the Hifiman house sound. I love my clears, but understand that they’re in another class both performance and sound sig wise.

LCD X I can’t speak to.

So i have two dacs that i tested it out. The el dac and enog2. I felt that the el dac was warmer and smoother and the enog was a tad bright and analytical. I prefer the enog just for the details though but I was happy with both. A liquid plat and balanced cable for the sundara is coming shortly so I’m intetested how they will sound with and enog2 with balance.

Thanks. That L. plat should be an interesting matchup.

So I know that the liquid plat is more expensive than the sundaras but man do they sound good together. Again, the vocals are so good on these. The lp smooths out the treble a bit and separates the instruments better. I feel there is better detail and clarity as well, These headphones eally make me appreciate vocals a lot more haha

Hmmm
just saw brand new set for £299 (2020 revision)

These or the Mangrid tea.
I have starfields and tin p1 already.

The sundaras remind me of the starfields but with more focus on treble, a neutral bright. Better vocals. Same width and the Starfields are smooth neutral.

Liquid plat + enog + sundaras was pretty subpar imo. MLP fucked with the sig too much. Let me know what you think though!

I ended up listening to the PM-50s solely with that setup for a while before I sold the sundaras. I might’ve liked them more via the gilmore.

Going to second this opinion. I thought they sounded better on my asgard than my liquid platinum but my combination is Liquid plat + Bifrost 2

Nah, archel + enog + sundara was fantastic. I imagine the erish on my desk (and the gilmore) would sound great as well. The MLP just does not vibe with the sundaras.

It does vibe with the hexv2, but that’s cause the hexv2s are already ultra-precise. They can take the hybrid tube sound fuckery.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the mlp, but I find it doesn’t really work with my clears or eikons too well. It works really well with the hexv2.

Honestly, if anyone wants to trade an rnhp for an mlp, hit me up lol.

Interesting, i do find the sundaras too bright for me. How did you find them?

Too unfeeling. Not bright, just bland af.

The hexv2 fixes that with a more refined and slightly u shaped sound sig. More impact, more dynamics. More intimate staging (though still just as wide / deep as sundaras). Better layering and separation.

Whereas my elegias and clears sound pretty spot on neutral to me. Elegias might be slightly mid forward. My Eikon is dead neutral afaik.

Like, there’s a right way to do neutral. Sundaras might be ultra detailed and neutral for the price, but they are boring. They lack punch, intimacy, timbre, and dynamics in a bad way (in comparison to higher end neutral headphones). For the price they’re fantastic though.

So this is what I eq them. To me with the enog on medium output and mlp, sundaras balanced i think im liking this more than Asgard and enog but i will have to do more listening.

MLP will still sound good. I just hated what they did to the sundara’s unique qualities for me.

I also don’t eq at all really, so there’s that. If a headphone is poorly tuned it shouldn’t be bought in the first place lol (cough cough LCD anything)(not that the sundara is badly tuned, but even with eq it still lacks the qualities I look for in a headphone). If anything the sundaras fr is pretty damn great and very up my alley.

I see what your saying, from my point of view this is only my second hifi headphone, 1st being an akg k712 haha, im looking forward to the “journey” though, have you any experience with elex, 6xx, or argons? Those are some that i might get in the future.

Are you deciding you don’t like the Sundara? What would you change about them?
