I hated the HE4XXās very much. I thought for a long time about not getting another HiFiman or a planar for that matter (I previously tried the OPPO PM3ās). I picked the brain of Mon about giving planars a third chance. I took the dive and I have been VERY happy with my Sundaraās.
Did not like them out of a THX amp or my tube amp, but love them from my Liquid Platinum and Violectric V220.

Maybe Iām crazy or the 5 years I have spent with the 400i ruined me but I love them on my 789. Single ended they can sound better on some of my other stuff but through the 789 ābalancedā is my favorite out of my gear. With that said I try to avoid ess based dacs especially with the 789.

My chain of SMSL SU-8 AND SMSL SP200 was not at all kind towards bright or brightish headphones. I donāt think of the Sundaraās as bright, but it was not a good chain for me.
Of course we all hear differently, so you can take everything I say with a grain of salt. 
i was liking the sound of oxygent free copper cable. they say its the best. also better connectors. i found this cable on Amazon and i bought it 23$:

Thatās the first cable I tried for the sundaras and it sounded awful.l, also pretty shabby build. Please report back on it as Iām hoping mine was just a bad sample.

I did not care for the 4XX either, but I do like the Sundara. FYI
Would you mind going over difference between the A3 and Erish with the Sundara? Iām curious about the Erish. Currently, Iām thinking Iād try a tube before another solid state amp (after I sell some stuff), but I could potentially be swayedā¦
Tube for the sundara? Does not work well. I feel the erish brings out and separates the details a bit better than the asgard3. The asgard3 seems to smooth everything out for a more warmer fun sound. The differences are pretty minimal though. Its not night and day. I think the erish edges out a tad bit.
For the sound and how nice and compact the erish is compared to the asgard3 Iām very impressed with it.
If you want balanced I highly recommend the erish

I am waiting on the hart cable kit though and will be able to do an a/b test better. Iāve only been listening to the erish right now after only listening to the asgard3 for a week. Will go back to the asgard3 in a couple days to see more differences.
Yeah, Iām not really thinking the tube for the Sundara - Iāve got a set of 6XX I traded for. I tried them before and wasnāt impressed with them, but everyone says 6XX + tube = awesome, so Iām curious. Iāve also just never heard a decent tube amp, so again, curious.

Yea 6xx is great on a tube. I use a darkvoice
The Darkvoice is likely the model Iāll try. Especially if Drop puts it on sale again.

Seems they have about a quarterly drop on the DV. I would expect another one in July, prob.

If the you bought the long one, thatās probably why. Shorter cables sound better. I have the long cable of that brand and it doesnāt sound as good as the short for my vokyl erupts and monolith m570. I have the long one for my sundara, but not the short one. Iām gonna try Hart audio cables to see how a higher quality cable might sound.
And get atleast a new front tube. There is a tube rolling thread here and its great. Lots of good choices and tips.

Sundara through the Erish / A3 or 6XX with Darkvoice? Whatās your preference and why (or for what genres)?

I would say mostly sundara and erish. Thatās what i like right now but it is the newest of my stuff haha. The dark voice with 712 and 6xx is really great though. I havent listened to those in a minute since getting the sundaras however.

How would you compare the shorter one with the original cable?
is that the new neomusicia cable? I use the 4.9 foot cable and it works great and great build imo
The shorter one sounds much better. I have a long and short one also for my msr7, and Fidelio x2hr. They sound better with it, also with my other headphones.
