Just stepped in the audiophile game with a set of Sundara’s and I’m
a little underwhelmed? They sound great but not that amazing, though still waiting for my AMP to arrive from Amazon, think a decent AMP compared to motherboard out will make a big difference?

Asgard 3 + Sundara is an amazing combo. It brings bass and fullness. Love it.

Getting an SH9. Should be decent?

They do require a bit of power to sound good. While not a power hog, they take the most power of any of my headphones with the possible exception of the DT880 600 Ohms.

They do sound great on my Liquid Platinum though.

Hi guys, i need help with this.

So, i’ve imported a Sundara that was $330 with shipping but i was taxed and it went to $417. Yeah.

I also have the option to buy a Sennheiser HD560S for $233 with local warranty or a HarmonicDyne Zeus for $330.

So, do i return, or sell, the Sundara and buy one of the others or keep it anyway? Also, i am not from U.S.

I don’t own Sundara’s, but I know how it is to be hit by taxes and it sucks. That said, if your market doesn’t have them easier, this is a good opportunity as you can probably get back part of your investment. Just please don’t scalp people.

In any case, I would given them some time, since a lot of people really like them. Also, do you have a Amp or are you driving them of a phone/motherboard?

I see we are from the same country, so you know what i mean haha.

I will drive it with a dac/amp combo, topping e30 and l30.

Unfortunately that’s the sort of thing you should know before importing from a foreign country.
Though honestly, I think my Sundara’s are worth 400

So the amp did make the difference then?

Amazon tells me it’s on its way
I’ll post an update and short review from a noob-perspective as soon as it’s in!

Something I have not seen mentioned here is break-in. Sundaras were the first piece of audio gear that I have owned that REALLY needed break-in. My first impressions of these were not good at all - exaggerated, sibilant highs, and weak bass. This has improved steadily with use and now I am very happy with the sound. The manual recommends 150 hours of break-in; I think this is a bit much, but I wanted prospective buyers to be aware to give them some time.

Interesting. As this is my first step into high-end (okay, high for me, I guess low for this community :stuck_out_tongue: ) audio gear I don’t know how to ‘break in’ headphones
?

First you have to bury the cable in a church graveyard or sage garden at 30-degrees to the first waning moon.

Wait, wrong manual.

They just mean listen to them; or run music or pink noise at moderately loud volume , for that many hours.

It is not at all Universally agreed-upon whether this does anything, whether this does anything for some headphones and not others, or what it does if it does something.

So maybe if I pray to the audiogods, put on some pink noise and leave my headphones on my desk at home while I’m at work they’ll suddenly become a tiny bit better maybe? :stuck_out_tongue:

Exactly.

There is the less controversial idea of “brain burn in” that says it’s you that changes with x number of hours of actual listening, too. But then the 150-hour recommendation seems perhaps excessive and certainly arbitrary.

leaving it out with pink noise for a full day at a low to moderate volume won’t hurt I guess? So I’ll be doing that for a few days :man_shrugging:

If I don’t hear a difference, I’ve at least tried.

That’s what I would do.
Without doing a controlled experiment you’ll never know what changed anyway, but if you find a subjective improvement, no one will try to change your mind! And a subjective decrement is highly unlikely.

True.
If they get worse the more you listen to it, then wtf anyways ;p
Thanks

Always good to see one more Brazilian here, bem vindo!

Aside form the L30 debacle with failed units, it should be fine to drive the Sundaras. Although, really, look here if your amp is affected, and maybe consider changing your amp.

But if everything is fine, given them some time. I don’t quite believe in Break-in as a hysteresis effect, but more in a “getting used to the sound” kind of effect. Especially since people say planars sound different than dynamic headphones, you may feel like something is unnatural at first, and later discover is something you like.

And I guess reselling in Brazil should cover your expenses easily, as any national price is probably far above 400 USD. Also, you can always try to resell here or on AV Exchange and you should get 250/300 USD, which is already getting back 60% of the value. So is the life in the rabbit hole of audio.
