Yes presentation is different, but signature is similar, but they do sound somewhat different, but they share some similarities

This exactly. The hifiman sundara and ananda are related, but the Arya is a whole different beast.

Yes the arya is a large step up, really liked mine, can easily recommend

AFAIK they just changed the pads and it fixed everything. More comfort, more bass, and it got rid of one treble spike the Resolve Reviews guy didn’t like. So if you already have Sundaras… I’d just try angled pads.

I mean…

Screenshots from the same video. Same MiniDSP EARS rig. Blue = Old, Red = New. It just looks like buying new pads would make a more substantial difference than buying the new revision.

No longer relevant…

…I’m an idiot. Corrected. Lol. Sorry all…
@Hazi59 I got it backwards, corrected. Bass extension makes sense now. Red is the new unit.

Yeah, but it doesn’t look like that much of a change. Rtings and Crinacle show much less subs drop-off, so I think he’s hearing correctly but the hard EARs ears can’t get a good seal.

Yup. More or less -5dB for rTings. and I don’t even trust rTings for bass because to me it sounds like it’s always more than that.

Might as well say the Sundaras are neutral AF!
(Especially the new ones)

I would say the older sundara was brighter neutral but the newer one (I actually heard it today) is more flat which is great. It was a solid improvement in comfort and bass performance for me

I never even heard ā€œopen-back + planarsā€ yet. I’m curious. I always thought you needed closed-backs for ā€œpunchā€ (i.e.: a decent drum kick sound).

…That is, when I did not know planars existed – now I’m not so sure anymore.

Looks like I will have to buy the Sundara again then. My biggest gripe besides the QC/Build was the rolled off bass.

Build hasn’t really changed but comfort and bass improved, so I would say it’s worth lol

I haven’t tried the original Sundara, but I have the new revision and I’m very impressed. I was hesitant to get them because of early reviews calling them ā€œbass-lightā€ but that is not an issue with my pair. They aren’t bass cannons but there is good fullness and kick in the low end. My only quibble is that slight midrange dip, but I think maybe I can live with that. These perform admirably against the more expensive DT1990 (though vocals were pretty much exactly to my taste on those, the only weak point of the Sundara in comparison IMO), and also don’t have the issue with fatigue over long listening sessions.

The older sundara was a tad bass light but the newer revision did improve that a fair bit from my experience

Funny thing is, when I placed the order I had no idea there had been a revision.

Where can I buy the revision? How do I know if it’s the new version? Think I’ll buy a pair to replace my 4xx soon

This explains the revision… looks to be a pad swap… not sure how to ensure you get the revision beyond talking to the dealer

Thanks for this, def gonna try this for my 400i + dekoni hybrids

so all you need are the new pads to get the revision? I wonder how much hifiman would charge for them?
