I watch the video with my he5xx. I did not heard any treble brightness at all! the 2020 definitely have more bass. If anyone have the he5xx and Sundara that can compare them.

The people seems to agree Sundara is better headphone overall. I want to know more about the soundstage. I like the he5xx tall soundstage.

Hello Hifiguides people! I just recently bought my first budget ā€œHi-Fiā€ setup which consists of a Schitt Magni Heresy to a newly bought Sundara. I bought the Sundara because I love classical music and I was drawn into the reviews of a sound resembling ā€œan open window.ā€ I just opened them, and they sound amazing, but I think these have an issue. Iā€™ve seen a lot of negative reviews about Hifimanā€™s quality control, and I think that might be coming true for my pair. Whenever I play music (mostly classical, like Rachmaninoffā€™s Piano Concerto No. 2), there is a really bad buzzing/rattling sound that comes from both cans during louder volumes. I am aware that this could be an issue of a crappy onboard DAC (the one on my motherboard), but I havenā€™t had any issues with my other headphones, so I think it may be coming from the Sundara. Did I receive a lemon with serious defects in both cans, do I need a DAC, or could it be a problem with the music Iā€™m playing?
Thank you in advance!

the chances of this being bad QC is very very low IMO but what the fuck do i know

Which other headphones you have? try a frequency sweep online, that way you can track down if it just the volume or certain frequency. If the problem persists, I recommend you return it.

he still needs another headphone minimum and another audio source then eh can know for sure itā€™s the sundaraā€™s but yeah push comes to shove if you return within 30 days your good regardless

Thanks! Iā€™ll try the frequency sweep and see what happens. Iā€™m not sure how to describe the sound, but its like putting something on the diaphragm of a speaker and hearing that buzz in both earcups.

I have the Koss KPH30i, Sony Wh-1000mx3, some IEMS, and the Phillips 9500.

I think I might just return these and try again. Itā€™s already pretty annoying. The buzzing/rattling makes them feel like Iā€™m listening to an awesome pair of headphones through a dollar store headset. What sucks the most is that these are truly awesome, but this is kind of ruining that whole experience.

So I tried the frequency thing online, and no issues with any headphones. I think itā€™s the volume. No other headphones are really buzzing like this even past comfortable listening levels, and the Sundara is buzzing at what I consider to be a normal listening level (Heresy on High gain with the level at 11 oā€™clock gets them somewhat loud).

I think itā€™s an issue with the headphones. Iā€™m just gonna return them and roll the dice again. Fingerā€™s crossed!

Welcome. So sorry your first experience is problematic. I have Sundaras and
tho my tastes are eclectic my favorite is classical. The Suns are Great for that,
due to the detail, separation, soundstage and Timbre, which Iā€™m fussy about.
This sounds like a driver issue, tho both sides seems odd. There are many others here with wider electronics experience so keep checking to see if we can
help sort this out.

Hey, I completely agree! These cans are amazing for classical, I think thatā€™s the only reason why Iā€™m willing to try again .

Iā€™ll hold off on returning them for now, and maybe thereā€™s a fix? It seems like an impossibility for both drivers to have issues, but I guess Iā€™m just that lucky.
I also just noticed that the earcups have a little swivel, but this is due to the yolks having a strange amount of wiggle room where they meet the headband. Thereā€™s like an extra amount of space between where the yolks meet the plastic part of the headband that allows me to swivel them slightly, and overall they feel pretty loose. I have no issues with this if this is normal, but I havenā€™t really seen this from online reviews either. Hopefully, this is normal completely normal on a typical Sundara, or else I really just got massively unlucky.

I donā€™t think you should hold off. Yes itā€™s weird itā€™s both ear ups, but it should be loud enough to deafen you well before itā€™s loud enough to create rattling or buzzing.

I have a set of Sundara and love them. If they had the sort of problem you describe, Iā€™d have returned them right away.

That loose yoke, swivel is different. Mine are solidā€¦in fact one of the FEW complaints about the Sundara is that the cups Donā€™t swivel. Sounding more like
you got a beat up pair, darn it. I think I agree with @wagstaff about returning them.

LOL. Thatā€™s awesome. I think I got the worst pair of Sundaras ever made! Iā€™ll make sure to return these, and hopefully, I can return to this forum again with good news. Thank you everyone for all of your help!

Stick with it, they are worth it. Do keep us informed.

Upload a picture of the swivel. If I remember correctly the Sundara cups donā€™t swivel so much

I will be returning them anyway, so Iā€™m not sure if thereā€™s any point in uploading photos. I will say, however, that when I shake the headband, these things really move. The adjustment band works well, but the yolks move around wayyyy to much around the place where they meet with the headband.

The opposite of solid .

i know someone in here was talking about comparisons with the m1070 to sundara. i painstakingly went and found the only freq response curve online and corrected it to my best abilities on EQ APO and it has transformed it into a completely different class of headphone. the freq response is terrible. and corrected its incredible. if anyone managed to keep their m1070 try my settings and see how it compares to the sundara . idk if anyone has a pair at this point and yes EQ is bad blah blah lol stock literally sounds broken at this point to me.

Hey Chrissie
My first hifi setup was a Sundara too, with an SMSL SH-9, great amp. Really drives the headphones well.
But it was popping and crackling like something was ver wrong with it, I posted about it and was told many times it was because I wasnā€™t using a DAC (was going 3.5 to RCA from my PCā€™s headphone port).

I didnā€™t wanna believe it, because fuck spending even more moneyā€¦ But I had to see if it was true. Got myself an SU-8 (you donā€™t need to spend that much but I wanted balanced) and it solved it completely! They sound fantastic now and have (unfortunately for my wallet) sucked me even further into the hobby!

Hey guys, I currently own hd650 paired with Little Dot mkII. Would the Sundaras be an upgrade (with a different amp of course)? And how would they both compare to the ESP/95x?
