šŸ”¶ HiFiMan Sundara

Here to thank this forum and the audio world at-large for finally eroding my resistance to buying Sundara. Very good. I love the extremely-open, fast, light-on-feet feel to it. I think the low bass extension is good, and feels very flat in the low-end. Also, early days, but the build/fit-n-finish exceeds my expectations. The feel from the cups through the linear clamp - very comfortable, weight is well placed. The solidity on head isnā€™t much different from M560, except feels much lighter and compact. The earpads are a bit small in their opening, but fine for me (can see others having challenges), but I think this is true of many BeyerDynamic as well. It makes sense as a progressive step from the HD600-series cans, if youā€™re looking for something a bit ā€œzingierā€ and open feeling. Thanks Again yā€™all (for spending my money)!

Nice. I totally believe there have been some QC/build issues ā€¦ but if you happen to get a pair that seems robust, crossed-fingers, this concern is not yours. Iā€™ve been lucky with that, too, so far.

And I donā€™t know if itā€™s the ā€œsilent revisionā€ of the Pali pads or if itā€™s just different standards and demandsā€¦ but Iā€™m pretty happy with the bass on my Sundaras, too.

Your mention of Beyersā€¦ well, Beyerdynamic is an old established brand, with a good track record for build quality and for customer service when there are problems; good record for generally comfortable earphonesā€¦ there are advantages to blue-chip companies behind the products. I find I like the DT1990s a lot after a pad swap and an in-line filterā€¦ but entirely convinced by the praise for the (600 ohm) DT 880sā€¦ not all that experienced after that. But the Sundaras are slightly preferred even over the more expensive and more-needful of modification DT 1990, maybe.

All that said. I love my Anandas and my Elex more. Crossed fingers for the longevity of the latter, especially!

What has been the experience with pad swapping the Sundara? Iā€™m specifically looking at the Dekoni pads, and ordered a set of hybrid elite pads to try out (coming later this week). Can anyone share their experience with these or other Dekoni pads on the Sundara? Thanks!

Havenā€™t tried it yet.
Keep in mind Sundara pads are angled because Sundaraā€™s donā€™t swivle on the headbandā€¦ I think stright pads might decrease comfort

@elementze Andrew Park at The Headphone Show just did a video on this.

I have the M1070 and Iā€™ve tried the Sundara, but ended up with the M1070. Could you please share your EQ settings, Iā€™d like to try it. I know itā€™s ā€œBAD to EQā€, but I believe that just like the physical tuning, the EQ is also a way of tuning a HP. And planars respond much better to EQ than dynamics, so why not?

I originally was interested in the GL2000s but based on different feedback and advice I ended up buying the Sundaras.

So straight out the box I have absolutely fallen in love with these. Ok so the stock cable is a bit meh but itā€™s okay. But soundwise these sound absolutely amazing. Not had to eq these at all, they just sound great as is.

Iā€™ve also purchased a Zen Can dap and an aftermarket 4.4mm pentacon headphone cable just to give a little helping hand driving them and wow, absolutely gorgeous. I am so pleased Iā€™ve bought this combo for roughly the same amount I would have had to have paid for the GL2000s. Really a no brainer IMHO, these punch well above their $300 price!

Iā€™m in the same boat. Did some research and I ended up not getting the GL2k and instead, went with the Sundaras. Bought them open box on Hifiman and saved $50. I think Iā€™m going to use that extra 50 on hart audio cables. Iā€™m pretty excited to give them a good listen when my newly purchased Schiit stack arrives.

They sound really good on a nice powerfull amp. I find I need 3 watts (@32ohm) to drive them

Which Schiit stack did you buy? Iā€™m waiting on one as wellā€¦

Iā€™ve had my Sundara for about 6 months now. These are stealth revision version. I use a ifi Hip Dac (with my laptop to listen to predominately MQA tracks via Tidal Hifi using Audirvana) The sound is great, detailed, dynamic and good presentation.

However, upon recommendation I decided to upgrade to a custom made cable from Oidio, They made me a custom Balanced cable (I also updated the software on the ifi Hip Dac) Using the Balanced output and cable made a big difference to the soundstange and improved the overall control. Iā€™m very impressed with the upgrade. I was told this cable would be good should I consider upgrading the headphones in the future to the Ananda or Arya.

Whilst a upgrade of the Sundara is not going to happen yet, are there comparisons between the Sundara and the Ananda & Arya? It would be good to know which would be the next level up in performance?

There are some of those comparisons on youtube and the general net. Have fun.

CHIO!!! I see ur a man of culture!

I bought the Asgard 3 and the Modius. Due to Schiit being back ordered, They wonā€™t ship till the 9th of March. Not so bad. This is going to be my end game for a while

Iā€™mm waiting on a Modius and Magnius. Originally my order had the Modius on backorder until 2/11, the Magnius was supposed to be back in today so Iā€™m hoping they ship tomorrowā€¦

Itā€™s hard to not be hyped for new schiit coming our way. I hope they ship early too. My Sundaras are begging to be used

Wondering why everyone and everywhere is saying to go with asgard3 if you have sundara. Is it so good combination. What brings asgard that other amps doesnt? Is asgard more warm and musical than many neutral amps and this ads as someone said here fullness to the sound of Sundara ? Is this correct?

Yes itā€™s correct. Plus asgard 3 has a much bigger power supply than similary priced amps wich gives authority and impact to the sound.

Sounds like where sundara really coul have benefits. So you have asgard and are happy with it right. And if you tryed some dynamic headphones how is it with them? Not too warm? Is it detailed enoughf? And for bass does it have good control

I think the power is one of the main factors. I feel my Sundaras need to be fed a lot of power to produce bass. i can drive them off my phone but itā€™s likeā€¦ You knowā€¦ Bit quiet and no bass. A cheap crappy amp made it loud enough but again, no bass. Switching to a 6watt amp finally unlocked the bass. Mind you theyā€™re still not basscans. But now theyā€™re no longer tinny
