So I figured I’d use my XD-05 a bit, give it a chance to stretch it’s legs, right? Get done with an episode of Uzaki-chan (I find it funny at least), and decide to have a quick listening session. Swapped the pads on my Dekoni Blue from the angled hybrid pads to the Dekoni Platinum Protein Leather (clamp seems better, but haven’t done enough listening to find a difference yet…). Started listening with the XDuoo(hadn’t listened with the intigrated amp with other pads, but figured what the hell) high settings, bass boost off. It seemed a little too mid forward for my liking to where the vocals seemed off. Swapped over to my BasX A100 (yes, jumpers are in place, line out from the XDuoo, so no “you’re using a different DAC”), and was instantly surprised by how much everything just seemed to fall into place so much better!
what headphones?
oh…I thought those were the pads, not a headphone, LoL.
also…wait till you see the difference between the headphones you’re using now and what you’ll experience when you get the chance to demo something TOTL.
Nah, you’re fine. I was also talking about different pads, so I can see how that could make things confusing. Haven’t had quite the time I’d like to sit down for an extensive and uninterrupted listening session to figure out what pads to pair with these.
I can’t wait till I get my DT990 and 4XX back in my hands so I can enjoy them once more, and see how they sound on this monster(the A100).
How are you liking the Dekoni Blue overall? Recently bought a set and waiting for them to arrive. A little worried about everyone saying how hard they are to drive.
Overall? I’m enjoying them, though i am finding I tend to turn to my A-100 when listening. Yeah, they need something that’s gonna give them a good shove to get a better experience out of them, but it’s not like you need all the powa to make go. It’s kinda like how pushing the DT880 600oHm. Yeah, you’re gonna wanna give it more juice to get the best experience, but you don’t need to have an entire power grid to do so.
Play around with pads is one thing I can say, as they have effected the sound with these more then anything else I’ve tried pad swapping (though admittadly, that’s not too much Xp)
If you ever plan on getting passive speakers, I can really suggest picking up a BasX A-100 and throwing on the jumper. If not, maybe something more along the lines of a Schiit Asgard 3(going based off feedback that I have seen from the forum and reviews). Play around with what you like. I didn’t like how my xDuoo XD-05 made these sound, and I’m not sure my Zen quite gives enough umph (loud enough? yeah, but not quite the same if you catch my drift)
i dont think i have the space or room to go up to the hardcore of an A-100, especially since they are hard to come by and probably will destroy my headphones if I’m not careful… I’m just going with a 3+ or liquid spark… dunno which to go with though because the 3+ is the trendier thing now but the liquid spark is apparently fantastic and both are the same price and stress intensifies
I get the feeling. If it makes you feel better, I can give you an idea as to how big it really is. You also shouldn’t have to use the jumper, but it can be something you can give a shot to see how you like it. If you have the money for it though, I’d say to look into the Asgard 3.
Don’t know how much @Marzipan or even @M0N could input on this

If you’re in the US, then perhaps this post was just made
i dont have money OR the space because i live in a small bedroom
Eh, I can understand that. To each their own.
For Fostex stuff? Yeah amps make an enormous difference lol. But it’s mostly because they’re an exception, they’re hard to power “properly”.
You probably don’t need the jumper either, but without it it will change the sound signature because ohms and demanding planars etc.
My T50RPs are also treble-oriented, I guess 50 watts helps with the “oomph” lol.
Still, don’t be surprised if it’s the exact opposite with most of your other, or future, headphones.
Yeah I was like that as well when I first bought the Topping NX3s. Man with it being a good portable amp it was able to improve the sounds of my headphones and IEMs I owned. Though I primarily use the portable amp for my DT 880 Pro since that one requires a lot of power in order to be drove in easily.
Without the jumpers, it is “just a normal speaker taped” amp.
Is a big and heavy beast though.
