šŸ”· Holo Audio May

I have a Holo Cyan, the cheapest Holo and when I got it I was able to hear an appreciable difference in both in improved clarity and timbre when compared to a Geshelli Enog 2 Pro. Which is as good a $200 dollar DAC as it gets.

Maybe I’m just lucky, or maybe the Holo May isn’t as good as the $3200 dollar cheaper Holo Cyan. Maybe I’m just lucky.

…and it’s got a volume control.

Honestly, if I was in the market and coming up again… I’d get the Cyan as an all in one over the BF2 and figure out an amp later. That is seriously a nice piece of gear. If I have to work in an office, that is a strong contender for an office system.

@M0N made me do it.

That’s how I got my:

  • BF2
  • GS-X Mini
  • Spring 2
  • Eikons
  • Diana Phi
  • initial look at the LCD 24
  • Sagra

M0N is dangerous but honestly as far as something sounds… he’s my favorite non-reviewer.

It’s not a May, but as @DagoRed pointed out I am in possession of his Holo Spring 2 Level 2, GS-X Mini amp, Diana Phi, and LCD-24. I’m also proud owner of an HE1000V2. I don’t know if my opinion means anything yet but you can expect an excessive amount of words spilt about all of this in the near future. The Spring is built on the same tech as the May which should provide some [of my] nonzero insight on Holo’s approach to DAC-ery:

That’s literally every single person who’s reviewed the May. Perhaps venture outside of Z’s opinion for an opinion?

Can we like… Focus on how something sounds? I know a comment made about the May DAC Was that it’s was nice but some of the competition at that market segment are stronger contenders in that price bracket.

Between the 14 minute and 25 minute marks is just feedback for the difference between the Chord Hugo TT2, Bifrost 2, and May Dac. If you want a more coherent Z review but a conversation with some streamers… This guy is pretty awesome. Give it a listen and yeah, this DAC has me salivating.

He even did a nono and use the SE out with a Bottle Head Crack… He loved it.

I mean at that point it’s not going to matter, the crack isn’t really on the level where it will showcase the weaknesses of the SE out imo

Zeos is very ā€œscientificā€ and also fairly stingy so if there is cheaper for a moderate amount he will take that

Also might be payed by geshelli and maybe just doesn’t know any differences in DACs compared to hearing a headphone and wondering ā€œdoes it sound like I’m listening on speakersā€

Highly likely not the case knowing Geshelli. Suggesting that is kinda rude my guy. Though not wrong that he is likely getting paid by someone.

He is getting paid by someone. His patrons. Every month. It’s almost like he’s doing this for a living or something… I know, crazy right.

Sadly, doing something for a living and being honest/having integrity do not correlate with one another.

A lot of reviewers have problems with conflict of interest. Not a unique problem sadly.

Undisclosed ā€œsponsorshipsā€ in online videos can land one in hot water in most western countries. Here is a longer video on the subject.

The biggest red flag is when reviewers (or review sites) run ads for the very product segment they review.

It took longer than 40 minutes for sure. But it’s here!

After this video kinda lost interest in Zeos DAC reviews. One that cannot make the difference between a R2R juggernaut and a Chinese chip-based DAC should not review dacs
