Currently renovating the house and am completely rebuilding the living room (ground up rebuild). I’ve never set up a home theatre before so I’m not too familiar with it. I’ve watched some of Z’s home theatre and speaker vids and that is essentially the extent of my knowledge. So Im after some speaker/setup recommendations, to get all the electrical sorted before the walls go up.
Unsure whether to go 5.1 or 2.0/1, floor standing or bookshelf etc. I do fancy a 2.0 setup given its not a large room and for cost/minimalist reasons. As far as speakers go the edifier s3000pros look nice and fairly straightforward and are the only speakers on the potential to buy list (Ls50s are probs a bit out of budget). It might help to know lounge chairs are likely to be placed up against which may or may not be a limiting factor for a surround setup (IDK).
Which brings me to my next qualm, HiFi brand options are fairly limited in aus without exorbitant overseas shipping and taxes so many of the brands available in North America and or Europe are fairly difficult if not impossible to source (Micca, Ohm, fluance, etc). So theres that.
Any advice would be a help. Apologies for the extremely broad question.
Price of LS50 aus is the budjet limit for everything or? Amp or preamp and speakers?
Personally would not pick LS50 for theater use, they kinda better for music with no lowend or bass needed.
I’d say build in stages. Since you’ve not built walls yet, wire the room for a full blown Atmos/DTS:X setup. Start with a quality 2.0 or 2.1 setup and as future budget allows you can start filling in the surround speakers.
Also, for those of us not in Australia, it’s hard to know what’s not available. You mention KEF, what other well known brands do you have access to?
