THIS is a scope that I have been wanting to review/buy/test for Years. I have come closer to buying one of these more than any other scope out there. Period. Thankfully, Austin was nice enough to make that dream a reality. I didnt know what to expect when I first cracked open the all black AMG adorned outer box. On the inside I found the typical stuff from any other Razor package. Excellent foam fitment, Excellent construction to the box, Defender caps for the front and rear, cleaning cloths and owner and reticle manuals. The scope itself looked unassuming sitting in its foam cocoon. Once in hand tho you knew it was something special. You knew that it was a Razor.
Every control is focused and built and designed to a high standard. The only criticism is the lack of a throw lever. Everything else is splendid. And it culminates into a near flawless package. The glass clarity is tremendous, there is ZERO Chromatic abboration to my eye. Due to the 4x multiplier there was nearly no loss of brightness at max mag. The EBR-7D reticle is well scaled for this mag range. The illumination is visible nearly as much as a SFP scope. And is very bright for the mag range, and well scaled throughout its 10 different power settings. Tracking performance on this was utterly flawless. The Only thing I noted that could be marked as a slight negative was the exit pupil shifted when you dialed up for elevation. Beyond that, You would struggle to find anything negative.
The title of this video makes me sound angry at Vortex. And if thats what you thought, then you would be correct. This scope is SO good, but was let down by its overall magnification range. 6-24 isnt great for anyone that likes lower magnification shooting, or scanning. Overwatch sorta stuff. The FOV suffers from it. Along with its 4” of eye relief. (not a bad thing, just something to note. High powered rifle shooters and hunters would really appreciate it I reckon.) But given its slightly smaller then average view through it, its large minimum magnification, and its long eye relief. What you are left with is a not so usable bottom mag for a lot of shooters. My BIGGEST gripe with Vortex is that this could have been just a single part of a much larger machine. Could you imagine how good a 3-12, or a 4-16 would of been in this package? Theyd probably of been shorter, lighter, and if they still offered everything that this thing does. They could of EASILY of matched, if not topped the likes of the ATACR, and Mk4/5HD’s. It really makes me sad, angry, and frustrated that we will probably never see that happen from this line of Razor. I wholeheartedly feel like Vortex dropped the ball. And that they dropped it bad.
