Basically the question is would a killer amp like the THX do more for my music than to upgrade from the Jubilee 58x to the Argons.
(Running it off a decent-sounding FX Audio DAC-X6. So it’d still be the DAC outputting to the THX)

If your interested in getting bassy headphones like the Argons, I’d go ahead and get that. They’ll sound different but not necessarily better. Also unless you plan to spend extra on ebay, you can’t just go buy the 789.
Rule of thumb, get the headphones you want first then worry about the rest of the gear. Nothing is going to change the sound of music more than headphones.
I know I know, this is just planning way ahead. It’s just a matter of time before the THX is back on massdrop, but then I have to act quickly and by that time I wanna have everything (including the budget ready to go)
Also kinda waiting to see the reception the T60 Argons are going to get. If they end up even better and wider than the Argons, perhaps worth the wait.
Donno about the “better” part either. For example, Zeos really likes bassy and wide headphones, but he doesn’t always mentions that, he just calls them “better”.
What I understand through “better” is neutral, detailed and medium width soundstage (natural). Too wide of a soundstage makes the sound diffused so it will end up lacking detail.
So I got my hands on a pair of Fidelio X2s after hearing him say how good they are. They turned out to be too wide and bassy for my taste (and very uneven treble).
Maybe your tastes match, but I am very wary of just the word “better”. If you come from a near perfect headphone like Jubilee 58x, it’s very hard to have a meaningful upgrade. Most headphones will have to emphasize something to stand out, so other stuff will end up falling behind…
Don’t know about the Fidelios, but the 58xs really are amazing. But not wide. Which is why I’m attracted to sth like the Argons
Also, I share a room so the fact that they’re (very) open is inconvenient (which is why I use my other pair, the Cooler Master 751)
So I guess… Closed and wider than the 58x is the target (preferably sth EU-made because the shipping costs from the US are disgusting)
matter of time is most likely next year. they pushed up the production schedule for this year and sold out. it’s going to be a while.
Just take into consideration what kind of sound would you be willing to sacrifice to get that soundstage. Like with any mod, something is lost and something is gained and Argon is no exception. Namely, Argon had lower upper mids, 10k treble peak and of course elevated bass (which most consider a good thing).
It’s actually quite the common frequency response graph for headphones with big soundstage. Even HD 800 sort of have this problem, but it’s not to the point where it hurts their tonality, since they have a physically bigger driver.
Maybe what comes out of the T60rp will be with less sacrifices, but there is no guarantee at all.
Get the Argons and a JDS Labs Atom. Best of both!!
If you’re interested in the Argons you should look into the T60RPs. They offer a much better used market(aka they aren’t as expensive used as they are new like Argons are), can run balanced stock, and IMO look a lot better. I had both at the same time and got rid of my Argons, both sounded great but I just grabbed the T60 more
To be honest, they are two completely different headphones with different sound signatures. If you like a more neutral headphone, the T60 is the way to go. If you like a bassy, fun headphone, the Argons are better. If you want a mix of both, get the T60 version of the Argon
I didn’t even know this was an option. I don’t need it, I don’t need it, I don’t need it… I’m probably gonna get it
They just started offering it recently. It’s more expensive than the T50/40/20 version, though.
I figured as much, I’ll probably wait and find a good deal on a used set of T60s and send them in. Cant hurt to try them out and send them to Z for review
