I need some guidance

So I’m clearing out some old stuff that I no longer need(ProMedia 2.1’s, old gaming pc, Logitech G25, soundbar, etc…) so I should have a minimum of about $700 to play within the next week or two but don’t want to blow it all on one setup. I wanted to first find something that I could replace my old soundbar/subwoofer setup for my bedroom TV but then be moved to my desk when I was able to afford a full home theater setup. The first thing I saw that piqued my interest was the JBL 308P MKII but it seems like it would be fairly annoying to set them up with my TV since I only have toslink out and HDMI out so I would need a converter to 3.5mm then a splitter for both speakers and the biggest issue is I would have no volume control.

Then I saw that there is a deal on a pair of Edifier S730 for $270 which is $130 cheaper than the MSRP and I was extremely interested until I realized that was not including the $105 shipping fee for the almost 70 lb speakers.

So I’m not really sure what to do right now, is it worth it to go with the Edifier at $380 that I can use for the “home theater” for a while then move that to my computer when I can afford a receiver/speakers/subwoofer. Should I go with the JBL 308P if there is a convenient solution to my input/volume control issue? Or do you have a better suggestion all around?

Appreciate the feedback.

Edit: I think I may have ended up finding a solution to my problem with the JBL 308P’s though, I found this DAC with optical input and 3.5mm/RCA output with a remote. I figure I should be able to run a 3.5mm splitting to the 308P’s and then I could use the RCA outputs to a subwoofer(Correct me if I’m wrong) after that I would just have to level the volume on the speakers themselves finally allowing me to control the master volume from the remote.

The only thing I’m concerned about now is whether or not the introducing a DAC into the mix would cause any issues because a guy on Reddit told me toslink normally has a slight delay and the DAC may cause the audio to be completely out of sync with the video. If anyone could confirm or deny this I would greatly appreciate it.

Or buy a 5.1 or 7. 1 receiver and pair of bookshelf speakers to start with and add the center and the sub and surrounds at a later date

I think I’ve already watched all of those videos except for the Fluance ones lol. The S350DB video is what made me find the S730 which has double the RMS and a 2 inch larger subwoofer with dual passive radiators vs ported.

Not Sure. This Topping MX3 is my 1st DAC and I’m running it USB. I’m not running a sub woofer yet but it has a sub output.

Yeah I might try to get my brother to buy one of those and some RB42’s and eventually a BIC F12/PL200, he’s impressed with my decent(for being computer speakers) ProMedia 2.1’s and really wants to get something like my Sony HT-CT290 but I’m trying to talk him out of it. Maybe when I get my new toys and show it too him it will change his mind.

I am curious to know though, on that remote for the MX-3 when you adjust the bass on that does it seem to affect your powered speakers low end? Not sure if it’s an all around adjustment to the lower frequencies or specifically to the subwoofer output.

Bass control Adjusts the speakers -

I have a sprout100 for my pc. My ps4 is hooked up via optical and my pc via usb. I have to pause videos now and again off of the optical for audio to sync back up and never from the usb.

also last gen klipsch are dirt cheap and sound great.

Darn, would’ve been better for me if it was subwoofer control lol. Still seems like a nice little unit.

Ah darn, so even with that expensive ass amp/dac you still run into some slight issues. But it’s more so a slight annoyance rather than something that you dread using right?

Also, I love Klipsch but I’ve always heard such bad things about the reference line so I don’t think I’ll be purchasing them until I can afford the reference premiere line.

Yup. Doesn’t happen to often. Sub crossover set to 120hz. You can use the line levels to control via sub if your sub has line. The natural 120 built in works perfectly for my setup.
