I wonder what Geshelli's coming DAC is gonna be like

no AKM chips because of the fire, so the JNOG is discontinued and they have a note to ‘watch’ for it’s replacement in the spring of 2021.

if they use ESS, I really really hope they fix the notorious hump of harshness.

what other DAC chipsets are popular in this level of product?

TI is probably an option

I would guess it will use either Sabre or Cirrus Logic. Either way will be interesting. Kind of hope for a Cirrus Logic based one as I don’t think any one has made a full sized balanced version of the newest flagship chip yet. I was impressed with the Creative g6 which used a lower end chip, I would guess Geshelli could make something quite good with the flagship.

TI, Sabre, Cirrus Logic and AD all have DACs.

Maybe we get to see some movement in the lower-end DAC market again?

Eventually we will see more Cirrus Logic chips playing at a similar level to Akm.
Certainly not a bad chip when it comes to music.
If they do use Ess, we can only hope for a good implementation.
Maybe some manufacturers will get a better handle on this.
Let’s wait and see what time will bring.

no Burr Brown or Wolfson?

I understand that Wolfson was bought out by Cs.
Burr Brown colours the sound more was at least my impression when I heard the Fostex Hp A4.
probably can’t generalise completely.

I mentioned Ti :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi,

Geno made four designs. We received the proto boards last week. We looked at, measured and listened to each one and made our final choice. We are in the final stages of development. Our choice captures the essence of what we made with the JNOG. We are using one of the brands mentioned in this thread

I think Cs or Ess.

Cs being short for Cirrus Logic?

@MazeFrame didn’t know BB was Ti. now I do

Really loving the JNOG here. I almost couldn’t believe it when the drivers didn’t install bloatware into the system tray. Would there be any reason to have both DACs, other than being a fanboy?

To share on the forum your comparison thoughts???

Well i can say it actually plays dsd 512, i have one album in dsd 512 but this plays it. I could never get my L30 or stoner accoustic, a 4970 akm, to do the same

what is the ‘it’ you refer to?

Yep I never had any DAC other than JNOG actually be able to do DSD512 and I have had several that claimed they could. I am honestly wondering if the problem with the others was that XMOS cant actually do DSD512 as they were all using it.

Geshelli made a good call with the Amanero module. I assume the upcoming dac will also use it. I find it to be better than XMOS in general, better drivers, doesnt have a shitty bloatware thing running in the background and seems more reliable to me. They put out a driver update after the JNOG came out and that fixed my one issue with it. Before the update if I was playing music with ASIO and something else on my PC started to play sound it would cause stuttering and stops. After that update no issues at all.

Anyone primarily using USB should go for something with Amanero or a Schiit Unison IMO as I have had the best experiences with those.

Wdym!? My PC motherboard running Realtek sounds absolutely amazing at 12% Windows volume!!! /s

But in all seriousness, I’m super hyped for the new DAC (probably JNOG2). After actually looking at the “fix” to the L30 you showed me in my thread, I’m thinking I might as well just go all in and get the best DAC and amp I can get for under $500 and this DAC looks like it’ll fit the bill for that. Now I just need to find an amp to get since I’m not really seeing the A90 in as good of a light anymore… ugh, if only the Erish had both XLR and 6.3mm, this would be a no-brainer stack.

Realtek’s AC12xx chipsets are pretty good…darn good compared to what we had 10 years ago, but only premium products get the AC12xx, most get a much crummier Realtek chipset. further, there is so much electrical noise in the PC that a dedicated DAC / Amp will make a difference that onboard audio cannot compete with.

that said, for some people it may be enough…but for those who hear the difference, it’s often a mind blowing experience that drives them down the rabbit hole.
