Excellent post from baskingshark:
Question for the people who have listened to planars: which ones come off sounding DD-like for yāall?
P-A-N-D-A, baby
Old men have their treble hearing freaking fall off a cliff!
Panda now.
Panda forever. Absolutely the most tonal accurate and DD like Planar that Iāve heard up till today.
I remember you saying the midbass is a little bit on the polite side but how does it take to EQ?
I would say it does not have the physicality that a DD presents in the mid bass, but for me the midbass is more than enough in terms of quantity relative to
the rest of the frequency response, like the upper mids and treble. But if youāre into EQing, Planars are probably the best transducers to do so on. It takes to EQ very well
Only the Heyday
But Iāve only tried Timeless, S12 and PR2. The Heyday slams much harder and almost comes close to sounding like a DD especially in the mid bass which all those others frankly are no good at
Campfire Supermoon. Expensive, but hands down the best single planar I have heard. It has DD kick, timbre, and tonality with planar speed and technicalities.
Edit: Should add that I have owned or currently own S12s, Timeless, P1, P1 Max, Dioko, Wu, Heyday, Talos, Stellaris, F1, Supermoon, Hook-X, and probably more Iām forgetting and/or have heard. Not to mention planar tribrids. Yeah, I have a problem when it comes to going on sprees to find the best of a certain IEM typeā¦
It would be really interesting to hear what other people prefer for their IEMs and where they find the best sound. I think it would be great to have a thread dedicated to this, so we can compare and contrast our different preferences and experiences. Thanks for the suggestion!
Panda and Glamdring. Of course one is much cheaper and easier to obtain.
That is a very good suggestion, I have yet to hear the Supermoon but Iāve heard nothing but amazing words on it. Damn expensive thoughā¦
Iāve seen them as low as $1200 USD for the universal but Iām not too familiar with the UK market, it just seems like most things are more expensive over there tbh
@domq422 converts to over $1,600 US, think Iāll pass on that one lol. $1,500 for the original newā¦ shit man itās just a single planar driver for fuckās sake, but then thatās Campfire Audio for you
For sure but not as bad as our Canadian brothers, they seem to get the shit end of the stick?
Thatās for a customā¦uniās are harder to find.
Big time, the Canadians get absolutely shafted when it comes to conversion and inflation on the 2nd hand market. And youāre right, the universal version is much rarer than the custom for whatever reason.
I think @JAnonymous5150 rates the Supermoon, whether or not itās worth the I canāt say but one things for sure itās way easier to sell on than a custom
I have said in the past that I think itās probably a bit overpriced, but then again, I find it to be the best single planar driver based IEM I have heard by a significant margin. I got mine for a lot less than retail because of some credit I had with Campfire over a service debacle from years ago. That credit was about to expire and the Supermoons were the most interesting of the lineup to me so I snagged the CIEM version and Iām glad I did. Iāll just leave it at that.
