IEM discussion thread (Part 2)

All drivers are made in china afaik, “made in germany” or whatever can just be because it is assembled there.

I mean they are not Chinese development. Otherwise, I know that everything comes from the great China :smiling_face_with_tear:

Yeah, sometimes it is dull and the upper treble takes care of that. But I would recommend this for someone who has no clue what he wants in this saturated market.
( Not mentioning the disagreement of Reviewers )

Cool. Hope you dig the MagicOne, John. A unique set. NOT an all-arounder at all but works so well with the genres that suit it.

Drive them with some significant power – you will NOT get anywhere near peak fidelity from a phone, an Apple dongle or a low-powered dongle. I drive them from my JDS Labs Atom+ desktop setup.

Enjoy!

“first time driver tech” huh? So LCP (Liquid SILICONE Polymer) drivers havent existed for the last few decades then?

I think it’s more than just the material. The mode of operation also looks slightly different.

EQing Magic One makes it a beast. But yeah, that IEM is hungry for sure.

Just heads up - silicone and silicon are different materials (and a nightmare for me as non english native to wrap my heads around when reading technical papers sometimes)

Edit: I stand corrected

Chris from CFA say it’s a more rectangular driver, and very small.

They say that they believe they’re first in the world.

Huh, I don’t even know what to think of that lol. Like they tried to make a DD out of some Planar and XMEMS bits in a BA form factor.

I guess this replaces their Comet, and is about as low-priced as a CA will ever be that isn’t a basic ba-in-a-plastic-shell like the Satsuma.

The tuning will be a big question mark, especially with the new or at least bizarre tech involved.

The USB-C cable is interesting but my question is whether it sounds the same through a regular MMCX cable or relies on tuning tricks in the DAC cable.

My guess (given new driver and pack-in USB-C) is that it’s got some kind of DSP shenanigans happening. The almost XMEMS bit “Micro IC Chip Voice Coil Technology” also makes me wonder if it needs USB-C for electrical reasons (no idea if USB-C handles the DC voltage bias or not, I’m not IBEW).

Edit: It’s a real juice sucker too, by the looks of it:

Double-Edit: Campfire reps say you can use any cable, just that she’s a thirsty one.

They do benefit from some extra power, so using the included cable or a preferred DAC is recommended. You can run them off of a standard cable direct from your phone, but you might find you have to have your volume set on the higher side. Using a different DAC can def change the flavor a bit, but not so drastically as to lose the essence of Axion’s tuning.

Looks like we went from Planars looking like DDs, to DDs looking like planars now. :joy:

aa ops. Thought this was another weird english situation like Aluminium and Aluminum

wow so it’s actually a new innovation

Apparently due to earlier scientists using either French or Latin in their work! I’m team Aluminium but I’ll say Aloominum while I’m in the states
