IEM discussion thread (Part 2)

Your welcome
where in nature you find 3 distorted loud electric guitars playing at the same time? or bass guitars attached to powered amps do not exist in nature … so why would you want the music sound natural anyways. the dude who mixes these stuff brings down all the harshness so it becomes listenable,
" natural" and live metal would sound very harsh tinny and unlistenable.

i was talking specificaly about the cymbals you mentioned.
They sound nice, just not as they would sound in reality

Great insight! The C12’s treble magic really seems to hold strong, and that late rise adds to its character. Totally agree that hearing perception plays a role—what some call “missing air” might just be a different response curve. The V16 sounds like a technical powerhouse, but the fact that C12 still edges it out in treble shimmer says a lot. Love how you fine-tune it with EQ—always the best way to get the most out of a great set!

Nice! I’ll have to try this EQ setting.

Note, the C12 measurement on HBB’s squig is not the 2024 version. It’s the old version.

Yes, that´s why i use it, i own the OG

For those interested how i got there:

I Auto EQ´ed C12 to CP622B as they are very close anyway and then did some minor adjustments from there.
I can not EQ from scratch, but with tricks like that its quite easy and fun
(As my mom always says: It´s ok to be dumb, you just need to be smart enough to help yourself out  )

Do you own C12 or a you in the ongoing EU tour?

I also routed C12 back to germany for another tour this time with the new version
Thanks @Jon_let !

Cymbal hits are actually much harsher and brighter than that recording if it hits right beside your ear. But comparing a recording with real life ia pointless imo, like irl you dont have fixed stereo imaging so how and where you hear the cymbals or anything depends on your location on the stage or the enviroment itself.

Just started a tour with Audiogeek EU, also thanks to @Jon_let :raised_hands:

Yeah, squig is an amazing tool for eq experimentation!

I’ve spent two weeks with the Dunu Glacier, a $1350 USD hybrid IEM featuring a single dynamic driver, four balanced armatures, and four electrostatic drivers. 43Ω impedance and 109 dB/mW sensitivity. Thanks to Dunu and the Audiogeek EU tour group!

The sound signature has forward bass and upper-mids/treble, making for an exciting, energetic tuning. The tradeoff is that the mids are on the lighter/thinner side, particularly noticeable with male vocals. Despite the forward treble, there’s no uncomfortable sibilance or harshness through the upper-mids/treble region.

Details, cymbals, and spatial cues come across nicely, with forward but natural tone. The bass is perhaps the most impactful I’ve heard to date (even more so than Kiwi Ears Punch), with a satisfying thump/physicality that feels well-balanced between mid-bass and sub-bass. The bombastic bombastic bass is a lot of fun, but is riding a thin line between fun and boomy/unrefined, offering less sharpness to the leading edge/attack than other sets.

The Glacier really shines with pop/electropop (Charli XCX) and hip-hop/trip-hop (Angel by Massive Attack), where the energetic presentation makes for an engaging listen. I can see it being a clear upgrade for people who enjoy the tuning of Binary Acoustics Chopin or Moondrop Variations.

Build-wise, the shells are a bit heavy and on the larger side, though the nozzles aren’t too wide. Fit was adequate with average isolation.

This set was a lot of fun, and I’m sure it’s a set people looking for this kind of tuning would thoroughly enjoy. While I enjoyed the set a lot, the mids presentation wasn’t quite to my preference – I personally prefer more weight/body to vocals.

I’ll be posting a comparison between Dunu Glacier, Letshuoer Cadenza 12, and CraftEars Omnium soon!

Nice write up!
Sounds like you´ll like C12, curious to hear your thoughts of that comparisson.
I´d love to demo Glacier aswell, do you know if it´s still possible to join the tour?
Where is this audiogeek stuff happening? FB? Head-Fi? Whatsapp?

WhatsApp is the main platform. There are a a Facebook group also. Where in the world do you live?

Facebook would be a turn off for me, but WhatsApp would be OK
I am from Germany

The Glacier does seem to bring a lot of energy and excitement, especially for electronic and bass driven genres. I am also with you on the mids…some sets do lean towards a thinner or more ethereal vocal presentation, which can be great for clarity but it can lose some of that weight on certain instruments. I also love the way these look…but it does seem it might be hard to maintain that shiny shell forever. Curious to see how it stacks up against the Cadenza 12 and Omnium in your upcoming comparison!

This is one of my test tracks.

It was this track that I was listening to when I realised that Cadenza 12 (2024) was perfect (for me).
