IEM discussion thread (Part 2)

Yeah exactly, Zero 2 leans a bit too polite, like it holds back. The Bunny, while still clean and neutral, has a bit more texture and liveliness, especially in vocals and upper mids. It just feels more dynamic without breaking that balanced tuning. Definitely a step up in engagement for me.

I listened to the Flipears Legion for a couple days, so consider these quick impressions. The Legion is a $850 USD tribrid IEM with a dynamic driver, coil-style bone conduction driver, and SPARK electret tweeter (like an EST). It has 5.3 ohms impedance and 114dB @ 1mW sensitivity. Thanks to AudioGeek EU for arranging the tour!

I can see why people like the Legion. It’s a warm, smooth listen with lush vocals while keeping some nice sparkle up top. To me, that’s what makes this set special: the presentation is smooth and relaxed while still having that treble sparkle shine in the mix. The bass is big and bombastic. This isn’t a technical or detail-focused set, it’s a lush, enveloping kind of sound. I liked it with classic rock like Steely Dan’s ā€œJosie.ā€

Ultimately, this isn’t a set I’d go for myself, and would recommend people try before they buy to see if its special-sauce tuning suits them. The bass is fun, but it’s not so fast or tight, more warm tending towards boomy. Vocals are a bit too soft and romantic for me, lacking some sharpness. The timbre in the mids tends towards a boxy or slightly nasal tone. It’s not bad, but heading there. This is actually around the frequency that the BC ā€œringsā€ at, if you just tap the set while it’s in your ear; not sure it has to do with that, but maybe.

EJ10 seems to be now available on the market. Steep price vs the EJ07 if this is the successor. Wonder how good this is.
