IEM discussion thread (Part 2)

I’m just kidding, full transparency. If you feel like you can hear a difference in your cables, more power to you. I don’t judge.

Just breaking balls.

Spending $4k on RCA cables though… It’s tough for me not to roll my eyes.

Need some Eartips Recommendations, Avoiding expensive ones like Azla and Velvet.
so far I’ve been suggested, Kiwi Ears Flex, Tangzu Sancai, Dunu S&S, He Sonic tips.
any other recs out there?

FiiO HS18 are inexpensive and my go to for most easy to fit IEMs. The Clarions by TRI are excellent affordable wide bores but could use an SS version for fit in some cases. Sennheiser’s tips are slightly more expensive but work with a wide variety of IEMs as well.

See this list.

my favorite budget tips are the Sony EP-EX11, they are dirt cheap on amazon jp, but avoid buying on aliexpress as there are tons of fakes and they are actually sold for around the same price as the legit ones.

and these Elecom EHP-CAP20

Oh shit, Dom, I roll my eyes so fucking hard they nearly roll right out of my skull! And I’ll go one step further; I don’t really hear a difference with respect to interconnects. I use the Mogami cables because it’s a quality cable that is built well and I can afford to do a whole system with them.

No, the real difference I hear is when I swap a headphone or IEM cable. And I do.

In my brief journey with IEMs (Turns out, I am a headphone guy) the velvets and the S&S tips worked the best for me. That said, the list that @Rikudou_Goku submitted is mind-numbing. It let me know just how much I don’t know about tips and IEMs in general!

I have my own tips list as well but its only 32 tips listed and only old ones.

That list from audioreviews is definitely the go to list to see what exists.

As an edit, I thought the Spinfits were nice as well. I think I used the CP-145s. Personally I though the Candy’s were crap.

Guys, I like seeing iem’s internals and crossover boards. Please reply with some photos if you have.

the pic was from a discord server.

Not sure, yet it appears that the rear pins on the 0.78mm connector, where wires from the crossover board would normally be attached, instead plugs into a mini socket which is soldered to the crossover board. My point is that if a pin breaks off inside the 0.78mm connector, then the faceplate can be removed and a new 0.78mm connector can be simply plugged in after removing the original 0.78mm connector. Anyway, this appears to be what I see? Does anyone have any thoughts?

Eager for this.

The Venus did not jive with me at all. Weird tuning. WAY too diffuse field, which created almost a “three-blob” soundstage like the Sennheiser 6 series of over-ears.

But the Jupiter is jiving HARD with me. The best sub-$100 set I’ve heard. Period. Detail, bass quality and imaging resemble something easily double its price.

Melody Wings is redeemed for me. Bring on the Neptune!

I’m more concerned with Crin having said these would be filled, Solid resin. but nope, the crossover area is accessible. Good repairability but the solid resin description needs work.

Interesting, hopfully I get to hear Venus this May Canjam SG, Venus was muddy and very compressed sounding for me as well.

The rest of the shell may be entirely filled, but the x over section is not. This is totally good, the xover can be fixed if necessary. This should yield the best reparibility combined with good mechanical stability.

I guess, moondrop also does this, but they glue their components to the side

Variations is about 80% filled with the xover like crins.

My opinion about shells is metal is king BUT. I want low temp conductivity. I want scratch resistance. I want extremely low weight. Titanium/Alum composits are probably the best possible imo. But reality is a different thing. As far as resins, basically 3D printed shit. There are incredible quality resins with great scratch resistance and mechanical stability, but none have been used on iems because of.. I have literally no idea. Maybe cost savings. The better shit costs a lot.
