IEM discussion thread (Part 2)

Yes, they do.

Output level can also scale differently.

Max gain on both? Maybe you have IEMatch on gryphon turned on.
Volume scaling regulated by potentiometers may differ as Riku has shown, but your story is quite surprising

I believe on both devices just increase the top (max 100 goes to max 106 for instance) but Q5k i keep on normal gain. IEMMatch is definitely not, I tried it and volume drops significantly.

I am quite surprised. I have a db meter so Iā€™ll volume match and see exactly what the volume is. On the qudelix the app tells you how many mW you are at at a specific volume, unfortunately the Gryphon doesnā€™t have that same transparency.

Blessing 2 or 3, for around $310-320. Just donā€™t drop it! (Sorry to poster who dropped their 2 Dusks!)

So I just did the test on SE and BAL and its shocking

Same IEM, same cable for SE (Aur Audio Aure)
75dB at 1KHz on ifi Gryphon: 59/100
75dB at 1KHz on Q5k: 4rms (not sure the number of clicks) pics below

BAL I had used a modular cable to switch between 4.4 and 2.5, same IEM
75dB at 1KHz on ifi Gryphon: 47/100
75dB at 1KHz on Q5k: 4rms, less clicks than SE

EDIT: Ignore the dB in the app screenshot, My numbers are based off the dB meter for consistency

And the volume match sounds accurate to your ear too?

Cause I donā€™t think I had an IEM that Iā€™d be that low on Q5K. Usually my lowest is like -35 to -38, not -53

I didnā€™t put it in my ear but if the dB meter is reading the same value, regardless of the actual number, I donā€™t see how they would be at different levels.

Btw I definitely listen to this set at higher volumes. On the Q5k itā€™s closer to -30db and on the gryphon itā€™s more like 81/100 so itā€™s like the readers 75dB is not actually 75dB. Either way it still shows that the qudelix puts out more power at the lower end of the volume scale than my gryphon

Oh btw, if anyone wants cheap sd cards, it looks like aliexpress is actually a decent source.

Tested on my pc with this adapter:

Bought all 3 of them when they were at around 2.5 usd each during the ali choice sale. (the pick 3 cheap products and get free shipping.)

Performance is about on par with the branded ones at least compared to the video above but less than half the cost.

What about longevity though - handheld emulators usually come with bundled MicroSDs but the community recommends against using them because thereā€™s a chance theyā€™ll randomly lose data not far down the road

Guess that is the question. Then again, i had Sandisk cards die one me randomly in the past soā€¦

I believe you. I guess there are no perfect options.

Hypothetical person who refuses to buy memory cards made in China: ā€œHi, I have no memory cardsā€

Somethingā€™s not right. The links go nowhere for me.

Nah, these links are fine.

Having said that, occasionally I get an error like this, too - even though the hyperlinks are valid.
AliExpress is just buggy as hell.

Review here: LETSHUOER S15 - Reviews | Headphone Reviews and Discussion - Head-Fi.org

This is the first time I have spent this much time with a planar iem. As far as my understanding of planars goes, they are a hit or miss in terms of timbre. However, with the S15, both timbre and tonality reach great levels. It is one of the good releases from the year 2023. Throughout my time with these iems I never had any complaints, and I enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed my other sets.

But the real question is: Is the price tag justified? I think thatā€™s a big question to answer. Itā€™s evident that Letshuoer has dedicated significant effort to deliver a comprehensive package with these in-ear monitors. The appealing aesthetics, solid build, generous accessories, and quality cable all underscore the teamā€™s commitment to providing a satisfying user experience. While all these elements are justifiable, comparing the S15ā€™s price point with other planars and some good non-planar iems reveals a potential disparity. Something like the Hidizs MP145 at 130 USD is a lot more justified when we talk about the price-to-performance ratio. In terms of sound quality, the S15 excels, but the pricing might be perceived as less justified when considering alternatives.

That being said, these iems are one of my favourites from the last year, and I am sure most of the people who have tried them would surely recommend them. They are a lot more than just impressive. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but their sound is also beautiful. Who knows, Letshuoer might introduce attractive discounts, making this great experience more accessible to a broader audience.
I would rate these iems a 4/5

Do note that you should look for them in the ā€œchoice dealsā€
I believe this link should lead there.

Just that the products shown differ from user to user so you might need to dig deeper to find sd cards at the cheap prices I bought them at.

Well Iā€™m an idiot and just noticed that my IEM match was on. I must have accidentally clicked it at some point. I should have just checked when you mentioned that :man_facepalming:

With it off my listening volume went from ~68 to ~59 so a decent drop

ā€œNatural, Organic, Lively Sound Tuning.ā€ :grinning:
Hopefully this time they didnā€™t warm it up too much and run away from their own house sound. Otherwise, it will just be a warm soup of sounds :grinning:!!!

I spent couple of days with TinHiFi Mars. TinHiFi has upped the ante with this one.

Tinhifi T5S. What a lovely tuning. The bass hits differently. Itā€™s not your typical dd bass. It has a different impact. Itā€™s a thick bass and enveloping. Itā€™s a very musical set. The mids have full body and nice tonal weight. Those strings have enough weight in the notes to my liking. Itā€™s hard to find flaws. Not quite airy but enough energy in the treble region. For the price itā€™s too good.

And it scales with power too. Give it a good source and power it sounds even more massive. What a beautiful iem, loveable from the beginning.

The build is quite good and solid. Itā€™s built in metal shell. The cable though good is 3.5mm termination.

I will share more when I have spent enough time. And will share better photo too.
