IEM discussion thread (Part 2)

Thanks, Dom. A nice compliment coming from a real reviewer like you!

I was trained and worked as a journalist and still am a professional writer/editor in PR. Was taught to write bright and tight, baby!

As a fellow tinnitus connoisseur I appreciate your feedback. One of my all time favorite headphones was a LCD2 in Shedua, so I understand the darkness.

I will be keeping up with your farther assessments since I too am looking for something sparkly to add to the collection. The fit is one of my main concerns besides the treble, but as you said time is needed.

Tip rolling is SO much more vital with IEMs than with over-ears.

Rolling tips with IEMs reminds me of rolling pads with Grados. You literally can flip the sound signature of a Grado damn near upside-down with just a pad swap. Iā€™ve never experienced such changes with pad swaps with any other headphone brand. Too bad Grados are medieval torture for all but tungsten-covered ears.

Everything matters in tip rolling. Filling the ear canal for proper bass seal while maintaining comfort, foam or silicone materials, bore size, etc. Combine that with the three different tuning nozzles provided, and I may be able to dial in the EA500 LM sound to something closer to my liking.

Thereā€™s nothing I can do to the Galileo to add more treble extension outside of EQ. Just look at the graph ā€“ the treble plummets from a cliff. I donā€™t like hot treble and enjoy smooth signatures like the HD 6XX, but the lack of any appreciable treble extension on the Galileo neuters a bit too much detail for me.

More listening ahead ā€¦

Well that explains a whole hell of a lot!

Your writing skills are easily recognizable here, your way of words and pacing is both fantastic, my friend. You should give a full review a try, I bet itā€™d be fantastic :muscle:

Also, I am not a reviewer

(Or at least I keep telling my self thatā€¦)

I was able to get my hands on a used set of Aphex (diy from Hi-Fri) and it is a direct upgrade to Kailua, especially in the midrange and the resolution.

@pk500 Have you tried the silver nozzles yet? Nearly every post Iā€™ve seen has said the stock black nozzle is too bright and it hurt my ears pretty much straight away. Swapped to the silver nozzle with the red ring and it was a LOT better.

From what I gathered from reviews from o0genesis0o and Dave the Honest Audiophile the Thieaudio Hype series seems to have a similar awesome bass replay. Genesis and Dave are much more restrained in their assessment though. Iā€™m more euphoric obvioulsy.
I know you guys are already tired of it, but I think this tech is a real tier up for bass replay. I recommend anyone who loves bass to at least demo any of the Thieaudio Hypes and Ziigaats.
Cheers and in anticipation of your takes on it.

PS: Sometimes one has to be overly euphoric, because in my case, if I had only watched above 2 mentioned reviews and not blind buy the Ziigaat Iā€™d never guessed what this tech signifies.

Iā€™ve only had the pleasure of trying the Hype 4, but I imagine we share the same feelings when it comes to the bass presentation of these ā€˜isobaricā€™ 2DD configs. I immediately fell in love with the bass presentation, impact and feel of the Hype 4.

Been fortunate enough to have been lended the Fatfreq Maestro SE yesterday, and I can honestly say Hype 4 does not disappoint, even vs a 2000 dollar basshead set.

I am very tempted to get the Ziigaat Cinocotres as a complimentary set and to hear whether Ziigaat and Hype series may have similar bass characteristics. Cinocotres having on paper bass till 300Hz, which is where my preference is

Thanks for the tip. No nozzle swapping yet. Will get to that once I spend more time with current nozzles and tips to adapt to this sound signature.

I have mixed thoughts on headphone burn-in (depends on driver type, brand, etc.), but brain burn-in is VERY real in this hobby. Especially for me, as I havenā€™t bought a new pair of headphones or higher-quality IEMs in almost a year. Thatā€™s an eternity by my usual churn standards, so a few certain signatures are burned into my brain.

Need to open my mind to new sounds, man ā€¦ (seriously, Iā€™m not high ā€¦ )

If it turns out as planned Iā€™ll have 2 S tier IEMs.

Cinocotres for my left brain needs - logical, details, rational experience: Analytical Listening
Doscinco for my right brain needs - holistic, imagination, emotional experience: Fun Listening

The Cinocotres description is a little strange. It fits the Doscinco more in regards to the 300Hz shelf.

Cool to hear! Itā€™s an interesting set but Iā€™ve been wanting to hear impressions from real users.

My thoughts exactly. I believe the same was written about the Hype 10, but that turned out to have the same bass shelf as the Hype 4 :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Regardless, I bet the Ziigaats at this price point are great
