IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

Driver flex won’t damage the driver. I would love to listen to the 07M someday, but I love my 07. Cheers.

Is this Facebook post also from you?

Crinacle post a statement about the fact that the BA and the electrostat driver in the CRN / ZEX are blinds.

Looks like TRN is also being implicated for adding dud drivers for the sake of driver count. And apparently KZ was exposed for doing exactly this back in 2016 - suffice to say, I won’t be buying any more KZ, CCA, or TRN products in the future.

Crinacle addresses the situation and explained the tuning process.

I’m considering upgrading to the Yanyin canons, only if I’m able to sell my Yanyin aladdins. Cost me £190 and I’m willing to sell for £145, I’ve had them for about 2 months if anyone is interested

It pains me to bring up a possible con with one of my all time favorite sets, but the full picture is the real picture.
I’ll be returning my YanYin Aladdin to Penon for them to fix/replace: the 2-pin connectors have become super loose, the stock cable for example will fall out of them almost straight away.

I know I’ve listened to these a lot, but I don’t cable swap all that much. Ownership is only about 8 months or so by now.

Penon replied the second time I contacted them, they missed the first time somehow.

One reason my review has been on hold is I noticed this recently and needed to know if I should include a QC warning, or whether YanYin/Penon would take care of it and acknowledge it as a (hopefully rare) problem.

So far Penon seem to be willing to act, and if it’s anything like the time I had to return a faulty pair of Penon Fan, they will reimburse the outgoing shipping.

The Oriveti OH300 is a great IEM. Superbly comfortable too. I wish it had the tortoise-shell of the OH500, but from memory I do prefer this tuning ever so slightly.

If I had Aladdin and Serial as my 5/5 choices so far, the OH300 is a good 4/5. Remarkably smooth no matter what.

Im gonna demo/give feedback on O400 and OV800

I’d love to hear about them, because I’ve never been disappointed with their tuning, and their shells are so comfortable. I had a New Primacy about 2 years ago and warm-and-smooth seems to be their calling card for the 3 models I’ve tried.

It might take a while, as it seems I’m the last one in the tour. I’m guessing around early summer.

If recent disclosures have made anything clear, it is that all budget IEMs come with compromises. The Tanchjim Ola makes fewer than most. If you’re looking for a neutral IEM with excellent technical performance for the sub-$50 price point, look no further.

My full review, with measurements, a comparison with the Moondrop SSP, and additional images, is available on my blog:

Hey y’all! I’m new here. Anyone know what a good upgrade to the oh10 would be? I own the Olina and love it with the double filter mod. Thank you!

I’ve never had a big of a u-turn as this one, but I actually enjoy the Penon Fan a lot. It HAS to have wide bore tips, in my case keeping the bore short is important too. Not sure if running it balanced adds placebo points or not, but I’ve been doing that.

It’s not detailed, but it is clear, takes volume like a boss, and is never sibilant. Perfect for 60s style psychedelic rock.

As an owner of OH10, I’m interested to know the answer too :+1:

I think @tkddans might have said this in one of his videos, but XENNS UP would be an upgrade I think, as well as EJ07M/ Kinda Lava? Based on FR and reviews only. @nymz thoughts?
