IEMs are ruining my headphone experience

You’re welcome. This thread has definitely been trasformative to my perspectives of IEMs, headphones and audio in general. This has been an awesome conversation, and I appreciate all of you being a part of! Thank you all.

I totally agree with the title of this thread.

Recently bought the BLON 03 because a friend borrowed me his pair while we were at a audio shop auditioning other items (mainly headphones for me, IEMs for him). After giving it a listen to my playlist I was just so impressed and amazed at how good it sounds and immediately bought myself a pair on the spot. This was after I bought a Sennheiser HD58X, which it in itself was barely a month old at the time. Now my BLONs get way more play time than my Sennheisers.

Now I’m seriously looking into getting a BTR5 and more IEMs, eg. Moondrop KXXS, FIIO FH7, IKKO OH10 just to name a few.

GOD I love audio.

Replace the KXXS with the Starfield (Moondrop) lol, almost half the price but extremely similar sounding.

And maybe you can replace the FH7 with the FH3 lol.

I highly recommend FH3 over the FH7. It’s a better IEM at 1/4 the price. Also do not overlook the Fiio FD1 at 60 bucks. It goes head to head with the FH3.

I’d skip the Moondrop offerings in favor of Fiio.

Wow, will definitely have to give those another listen then

I actually auditioned the FH3 today and really liked them. But the KXXS just gave a bit more sparkle and I enjoyed it more compared to the FH3s to my ears. But like @Rikudou_Goku said since the Starfields are very similar to KXXS i’ll probably have to test all 3 against each other to really see which one i prefer.

If you want more sparkle I recommend the LZ A6 over the Moondrop stuff (including the Blessing 2).
Since you do consider the KXXS the A6 being around the same price (220 usd) shouldnt be a problem.

Awesome! I have both the Starfield and KXXX. Both are great IEMs. It sounds like you know what you want which is half the battle. I personally prefer a more “fun” signature. The FH7 might be your thing then. It’s a brighter IEM and can be tuned brighter or darker with the swappable filters.

I agree with Goku, save yourself some cash and just get the Starfield. Here’s a pic of mine for the hell of it.

Good luck!

ehm is it the lighting or did your KXXS turn black/blue lol

It’s actually the KXXX. Same shit. KXXS, KXXX… Whatever. They all sound the same. Moondrop announced that the KXXX would be a slight update to the KXXS tuning with slightly more bass, but I can’t hear it.

lol. missed that last X :joy:

Looks like the Starfields and the KXXS got the same IEM shelling, they look similar except for the Starfields painted on. Though I think in terms of sounds both are different but so far Moondrop has been consistent when it comes to making good IEMs.

Not really. The tolerances within unit variation are probably greater than any actual tuning variations between them.

You don’t even know what Starfield you’re going to get…

Those Starfields are beauoooootiful

So you’re saying that the Starfield that I got sounds different to the Starfields on what the others got? Seems weird then.

Yeah me too, I think they are beautiful as well and I find myself using mine very often.

That’s the gamble across all chifi brands. The lack of QC makes it a hit or miss

I guess I am one of the lucky ones, since the sounds of mine are exactly as advertised. No problems with the sounds here.

There are even more variations. He discusses it in later videos where he finds another Starfield that sounds in-between the other two he previously heard. Horrible QC.

As for the Starfield & KXXS tuning, they seriously sound about identical. I own both.

and I am one of the ultra lucky ones with 67 iems + earbuds and only ONE single QC problem (Ibasso IT00 channel imbalance). :joy:
