My Momentum 4 pop when I plug the 2.5mm connector into them while they’re powered on. I’ve tried plugging the equipment in in other orders but it always does this. The pop is quite loud. Is this safe for the headphones/amp?
are you playing audio when you are plugging it in?
if not might be an issue, if yes it’s rec’d to stop/mute the audio when plugging/unplugging things
I never play audio while plugging things in, including wired headphones. But my dongle is connected to my pc and is powered on, in standby mode (because no audio is playing; auto standby). Whether I plug into the dongle or my pc does not seem to make a difference.
Yes, that pop is normal and usually harmless. It’s caused by a small electrical surge when the plug makes contact. To avoid it, try turning the headphone volume all the way down before plugging in the cable, or plug the cable in first and then power on the headphones.
Don’t know why this is happening, but it always pops no matter what. Even if the other end of the cable isn’t plugged into anything…
So I figured out a way to make the pop much quieter. For some reason, when my dongle is on low gain mode, it pops very loudly. But when it’s on high gain mode, it pops much quieter. The order in which I plug everything in is dongle → PC via USB-C, then 3.5mm end of cable → dongle, and finally 2.5mm end of cable → Momentum 4. This minimises popping.
