Jaytiss Reviews and Ranking

Maybe they want something to help them break out of their stagnation, both perceived and actual? Guess that we’ll find out either way.

Unless they pivot hard with something fresh and genuinely innovative, it’s starting to look like Moondrop’s golden era might be behind them.

I am very much enjoying and I agree with your taste. Nice balance, yet musical set. I was impressed by the silence stage but again I need to get more listening in to determine what I actually feel. They seem to hit nicely at the low end and keep quite a bit of detail. Technicalities seems strong from what I am gathering so far. But I’m not really into the critical listening phase just yet. Overall impressions are very positive, however.

The one weakness to me is the cord that comes with it. I think that thing is kind of garbage.

Otherwise, a very strong set. The eartips are solid options.

I thought they sounded pilgrim like , with more air up to, and slightly less bombastic bass, and boom, I feel like my hearing is getting it haha

It’s a lot of the Elysian house sound with more air up top, slightly less subBass, and tremendous technicalities ! Kudos to Yu9Audio. I’m falling for this one!!!

If you had $220 to spend, what’s the better buy? The Aful 5+2 or the Ziigaat Hangout Audio Odyssey 2 with the $1 for $30 off reservation card?

No pressure then @Jaytiss :anxious_face_with_sweat::grin:

Saving your money for a new product that is coming out is always fair. P7 is a good iem but it isn’t for everyone. Nothing is ever simple.

That’s fair!

AFUL 5+2. It’s a proven quantity. An excellent IEM for the money at an even better price.

The Odyssey 2 is an unproven product. Very few reviews out for it. You can wait until it inevitably goes on sale 11.11.

Aful Dawn-x

So story time. My first review on head fi almost two years ago was about the Aful P5. I use the Aful 7 almost daily at work and is a favorite set. I have two sets again, after selling one and wanting one at home as well. It has a ridiculously high rating on my ranking list. So I would encourage all to demo before you buy, as I am trying to disclose my biases. I use the Aful Magic one as a comparison in all my videos as well, as it is a comfortable shell for me.

Having said that, I will strive to have the most honest and fair review about what this iem is and what it isn’t. I like this iem a great deal, and one of my sticks is having a ranking list. In some ways this is my favorite iem, the venting the fit, the cable, the feeling of the iem is like a custom iem for me which is very positive. I recently dealt with a ear infection and this iem allows my ears to breath really well, and that’s a hugely positive thing. 0;z

BASS

Bass is fine, this isn’t for bass heads. It’s a smoothe correct set that I love a great deal. Bass isn’t bad or poor, but it feels like it has a slight air lift to my ears which makes the bass slightly less impactful. The bass level on it has a lot of bass, but to my ear it feels too airy and light, but when the bass is needed, it feels present. This phenomenon is similar to what the Elysian Annihilator 2023 did for me. Light and airy, not robust and thumpy. Impactful, fine, acceptable, but not for bassheads and feels to my ear that it is tilted on an airy approach.

Mids

They are present and clean, this the best part of the set. Vocals feel nice and well done. Nice texture and detail. Great, livly and fun. I find the mids expressive, livly, and the vocals to pop out in a great way. It’s nice, and clean.

Treble

It’s natural and feels great I like it a lot and don’t feel it has the zing of the Aful P7 has, which part of me misses, but I think the treble is more appropriate and natural and leads to a cleaner more clarity driven sound. The treble can feel like it lack incision, and punch at times. But overall it a cohesive sound.

Cons and the real truth.

Do the ESTs or BC matter? I don’t think so. I’d love for aful to redo this iem without the Bone conductor and with Planars instead of ESTS and I think they might get a more simple set that might cost significantly less. But the facts are this, some people need to see a higher price on an iem for it to be worthy of their time. Of the dozens of sets that I heard at CanJam and have heard in my career as a mid Youtube reviewer, I’ve heard a lot of iems that don’t impress me. They are too bassy, too strong, and too outlandish. This is a good clean technical set with fantastic technicals, clean mids that doesn’t fatigue me, or bother my ears. As someone who has dealt with a recent ear infection, I’m all of a sudden more sensitive to venting and this iem is vented and fits so well that I just love it so much.

Looking forward, I do know that Aful is doing a midfi revisit of the their new Aful P8, called the Aful P8s. I look forward to that and think it could be amazing for many reasons. I would advise you all who can’t afford the price to wait for the next Aful iem, to which I think will be out in November as Aful have released an iem around that time in the past few years (P5 in 2022, Magic one in 2023, Aful P7 in 2024), and I know the final prototypes are being worked on soon and expected in October or so. I do know the iem will be called Aful P8s and it has a tuning switch for two unique tuning. I would expect it to be a little bit more than the current Aful P8 which is 370, so maybe around 400 give or take 40 dollars.

But if you can afford this iem, is it worth it? I think so. I think it’s wonderful, without many of the issues that the Cantor has. Cantor was like a high calorie desert that I didn’t want to use too much. This is just easy and fun to use for hours, and is like a fine steak, that I could have everyday and at every meal. My excitement for this iem hasn’t changed since I’ve gotten it. It keeps staying good, which is a testament to it’s strong sound, great fit, and the fact that it works for me in many ways. Remember the biases I spoke of in the beginning. It’s a fantastic iem, that for anyone who is thinking about it, it is a great set. But for those who are worried about the bass, or price there are cheaper options that you might like even more. Maybe even wait for the Aful P8s that is coming out soon.

There will be a longer review written on another audio site that ends in Fi. Also a youtube review will also be done with this. Thanks for reading.
