Just got the Neumanns NDH20 and wow what a mistake lol. they represent everything I’ve always hated in a headphone. veiled, muffled, like I’m listening to the music through a tunnel. it’s a great shame. because I can tell that from the sound that these are some truly fantastic headphones except for the horrible tuning.
I’ve never understood people who like this. but now I’m not sure I can trust Zeos again with a headphone recommendation.
However, he also recommend the Sendy Aivas which I was going to try next if these did not work out. I checked out the frequency response of both the Hifiman Sundara’s and the Sendy Aiva’s and they do seem similar. But I don’t think I know enough about reading frequency response.
Do the Sendy’s sound the same as the Neumanns? I like good mid-range and treble but not simbilance. can anyone recommend a good headphone for under $600 like this? Are the Sendy’s ok?
The sendys and the sundaras both have boosted highs, but the sendy’s are more aggressive and detailed then the sundara, also alot better build and cable. The sendys and the sundara do not sound like the ndh20’s much. Some find the sundara sibilant, so the sendys might be better in that regard
You may like the Aiva’s more than the Sundara. But keep in mind the upper treble on the Aiva is still much sharper and pronounced than your Sennheiser’s. Another popular choice at $500 is the DT1990. So that’s something else you can consider
Also lots of treble, but the 1990s also have a more studio or flatter tuning, so they would be more similar to the ndh20 but not as flat and more treble
Well i don’t think I would mind flat. weren’t the hd600 flat also? Or is that neutral? I thought those were good. I just hate that muffled veiled sound.
I think the next headset I’m going to go for are the Koss electrostatics from drop.
On second thought after looking at the frequency response, it looks like there’s a drop-off on some of the mid and treble on the Koss. these might come out sounding muffled to me also. Sigh, I just don’t get it.
See if you can find a stax srs-3100 system used for that price, is going to be brighter then the koss. I rarely hear people complain about electrostatics soundings muffled
ok sent back the Neumanns, ordered the Sendy Avia’s. The signature looks the same as the Sundara’s which i liked. hopefully this will be the end of my headphone journey lol.
It worked, i was so happy with my Avia’s that i exclaimed “this is it! this is all i will ever need!” Then i went to Hawaii and lived happily ever after
