Ive been thinking of purchasing this speaker. Anything better in that range? I really want a balanced sound and detail is important to me. Its for nearfield. This is not for professional use, just listening at home. I am concered about using a monitor for this.
Yup. I am partial to 3-way speaker systems. Kali Audio In-5 is legit. It is the cheapest competent 3-way that I know of, with built-in amplification.
What about the iLoud MTM Mk2? I heard those where pretty good. Also this is for nearfield but i see that the Kali in-5 have a nearfield setting. and they are much bigger
IN-5 should be just fine for Nearfield; I use Polk LSiM703s for Nearfield and they are spectacular.

A good speaker is a good speaker, and if you arenāt going passive then I think that the IN-5 matches what you are looking for (balanced yet detailed). Donāt get hung up on whether itās designated as a āMonitorā or not.
The only other powered speaker that I have experience with that I would recommend (at that price point) would be the Vanatoo Transparent One Encore Plus. Brand new for ~$700, if you go B-stock or used you can add some stands in and stay under budget. Donāt neglect your setup, you will want to have them well positioned no matter what speaker you are using.
The KEF LSX II (or original LSX) can be a option because it is Very musical, compact, and detailed, Built-in DAC and streaming features (if you like wireless),More āaudiophileā voicing than typical studio monitors
