Klipsch RP-600M or Klipsch RP-280F

So I was first deciding on Oberon 5s but I got miscaptioned when I saw them…they’re tiny and wont be able to really get loud.

So I’m going back on an earlier decision with the Klipsch RP-600M. Looking around and im seing package deal with a crazy price. What do you guys think? Can people describe the sound quality of the RP-280F with the RP-600M as well as with the RP-160M?

Package Deals:
2x Klipsch R-280F with a R-112SW Subwoofer = 1,275 USD
2x Klipsch R-280F, 2x Klipsch RP-160M, RP-440C Center channel with a R-112SW Subwoofer = 1,971 USD

*Referring to the RP-280F
For music or HT? Regardless, they are fun speakers. Very dynamic, big sound, fills the room quite easily.

If you want them for music, they don’t have the best timbre and sound pretty honky (if you are sensitive to that). They were also quite sibilant until you burned them in, if you are planning to use it with an AVR.

like veritas said, they can be bright. i love my klipsch, but i do not listen to all music on them. they do a really good job of sounding bigger then they are. big sound stage. decent imaging. great dynamics. they are fun speakers, not the most precise by any means. generally go well with rock music and other dynamic genres. do well at home theater. their efficiency, especially on the larger woofer models, is above average. they play very well with most avr’s.

Both music and home theater is important.

I listen to quite lots of different genres, so when you’re saying bright, it’s not the speakers for fast dark tones like dark psytrance Morten Granau or viking music like either danheim or warduna? I rarely listen to mainstream music.

I’m looking at marantz or denon receivers, maybe adding an amplifier to get better sound with music.

That’s why I’m looking at the package deal where u get the rp-160m as well which is from what I understand really close sound to the 600m.

you would most likely be fine with those genres. prominent cymbals will show you the brightness. i also found them to get brighter the louder they are played. but i do not personally own a klipsch tower with dual woofers. they most likely scale better than the bookshelves do. i do not listen to music very loud just about ever, so its really not a concern of mine. but just something i noticed through testing my bookshelves.

Zeos talked about speed in relation to woofer size in the jbl tower video, interesting point. Denon 2020 AVR seems to be the way to go, measure better with good features aside from the hdmi 2.1 problem but the PS5 passes through.

Id go with dual subs and RP-450c in any setup for the front stage except the floorstanders. With those towers would go bottom up with killer sub that can go lower than 20HZ and a klipsch 450c or newer model center. Then get to listening and decide which way foward.

Thank you @joshua_g , that’s what I’ve been looking for in the klipsch, not understanding what it really means with brighter sound. So from what I understand it’s the cymbal instruments itself or similar pitch/frequency of sound that sounds brighter.

Now I won’t be able to set up a 5.1 in my room currently as well as not needing to have a receiver currently and can connect hdmi to TV and rca/optical from TV to amplifier.

I understand it’s better sound quality for music with an amplifier than an av-receiver but will home theater sound be less viable with only an amplifier? And getting an av-receiver later on.

Brighter sound means the speakers have more emphasis on the higher frequencies such as crash cymbals and synthetic instruments. If you are sensitive, it will be grating right off the bat.

I personally got fatigued from listening music after an hour and needed to take a break. I now only use these speakers for HT.

I own and was just listening to the RP280-F with music earlier today. They are my main HT speakers and the ones i use when I’m listening to much of the modern genre’s off Tidal and i want the bass to really pump, the music to get loud and fill the house up with volume. I can coax them to play the more relaxed genre’s w/ EQ and i happen to have 3 Separate EQ settings, U, W and V shaped just depending on what’s on. I got mine on sale for $400 out-the-door a long while ago and am perfectly fine w/ them in my HT set-up.

Having said this, the RP600M is a superior speaker for music and works very well for HT use only, hands down IMO, the RP280-F is lively w/ a more club like sound signature that needs the midrange coaxed out and the bass brought under control for more classical sounds.

Mine have hundreds of hours on them, I LIKE the Klipsch sound, i don’t find it fatiguing or “shouty”, it’s just right for me (For certain music) this is personal Subjective opinion in sound…
There are some massive sales coming up on Klipsch, you should be able to do better in the US, i can’t speak for OCONUS.
Good luck, happy listening.
PS, don’t forget, we are talking about $500 speakers. They sound like $500 speakers, they do the job, and are often good enough. (My personal opinion)

The AVRs DSP really color the sound of speakers IMO. Major component in HT.
And the room.

Those dual 8s got to sound awesome watching a movie.
