🔶 KOSS ESP/95x

I use the Sennheiser HD6XX with a schiit stack and my darkvoice
The Audeze LCD2-C again with the schiit stack.
These are the main headphones, lately I use the little KPH30i often while doing things in the apartement. Going from the ESP/95x to the KPH30i is ridiculous, even tho the little Koss don’t sound bad at all for what they are!
I love all of my headphones for different reasons and the ESP/95 compliments my other headphones perfectly. It has this extra something to the sound, that the other ones just dont have.

This impressed me so much listening with the Koss. It makes me so happy to hear it. First time I heard it and I couldnt believe what I’m hearing.

@MrAyrit I feel you on that! I’m not a crier either, but to hear all and I mean all the things lifted my emotions and put tears of happiness in my eyes…probably because I am so greatful to be able to hear music in such a fantastic way.

Yeah, I couldn’t even tell you why my eyes were tearing up. It just kind of happened. Not even sure what emotion it was associated with. I was just deep into the song and before I knew it I was like, “Wow, these headphones must be doing something right.”

I can totally relate to that

Watching this right now actually… pretty interesting that the older tech here still seemingly holds up well

It’s a pretty nice headphone. Ive heard some even compare it to the L300. even beating it. I like mine a lot but it doesnt have any clamp. I took to wearing a headband with it. also it developed a whine in the left driver. I guess I left it out in the open too long and a dust got in. i bought a bag for it and i keep it in there now.

I’m curious if anyone else has tried the linear power supply. He mentions that it improves the bass and clarity a bit. Can anyone confirm? I tried looking at linear power supplies, but the prices are all over the place. Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent for the money one?

If you want to improve the sound, just spend $150.00 on a Schiit Loki. Once you put that in the chain it will just about reach perfection.

To me, they are inseparable.

What setting do you have it dialed in at? I’ll play with APO on my PC.

With these I take EQ to the extreme. I haven’t used them for several weeks with all the new toys coming in, so I am not sure if these settings are accurate, but they are pretty close.

Thanks, I’ll play a little.

So, got the fenestrated sheepskin pads coming in, should be interesting to see the sound changes. I like the velour, but I’ll like to see how these pads make the headphone shine too. The fong audio vesper pads are like unobtainium lol

Edit: so apparently some are in, yay… Do I need to do this smh lol

I have the Dekoni sheepskin pads on my 95x, and I like them a lot. Much more comfortable for my taste. They don’t mess with the sound negatively in my opinion. If anything, they add a little more depth to the bass. I don’t really remember the stock pad sound since I never swapped back once I made the switch

Starting using these again last night. Long layoff with new toys in town. Man, these things sound great! Of course I do use EQ, but I think I will stay on these for several days.

So different from the Elex’s, Sundara’s and the Grado’s.

Well, went full tard with these and got some hybrid vesper pads coming tomorrow too, this is the one headphone I use more than anything else so seems reasonable to me lol

Since you love them, can you compare the Koss to the Sundaras? Is it worth owning both? I saw so many good words about the Sundara that I’m kinda interested how they are.

I really enjoy both, but they are very different. Right now, I probably prefer the Sundara’s because they are newer.
And to be clear, I only like the electrostatics with the Schiit Loki to fill out the sound. Without an EQ, I find the sound too thin and lacking body. By that I am referring to bass, mids and treble.

I find the sound of the Koss very full and complete (with EQ). There is sparkle, mids are great and the overall sound is really enjoyable.

I Love the Sundara’s. Very open, a good amount of bass and the vocals are just fine. Recently I spent a week on the Koss system, followed by a week with my Grado/tube amp combo. Saturday morning I hooked up my Sundara’s to my Liquid Platinum and there was much happiness in the land.

I am in Canada and paid $650.00 for the Koss system, all in. I already had the Schiit Loki, but that cost me $260-$270. So about $900.00, all in for both.

I got a GREAT deal on the Sundara’s. Landed at my place, they were about $435.00.

If I had to pick only one, I would pick the Sundara’s. I love having the option of the Koss system, but my top three are the Grado GH2’s, Focal Elex’s and HiFiman Sundara’s. And depending on my mood their priority slides around.

The bottom line is that the Koss system is a nice set, if you like change/having options and I do. But it is not a “must have” to me. The Sundara’s are pretty close to “must have” and push the Elex’s.

Thanks for your words!

I actually like the sound of the Koss without equalizer, but i enjoy it with your settings aswell  Tried them a few days ago! I´m definetly searching for variety and i think the Sundaras are not a bad buy, considered i can get them for 350€ new.
“there was much happiness in the land” and pretty close to “must have” sounds very good!

For a strong contrast I use Nighthawk Carbons. It’s my choice for variety.

Thought about them aswell. Would be something to buy if i find a good used deal. Definetly something i want to try!
