šŸ”· Lake People G111

Good pairing amplification wise but I donā€™t think it helps with the bass, for that an Asgard 3 might be better or an otl tube like the crack with the right tubes
But I donā€™t think any amp will make the hd600 a bass monster :stuck_out_tongue:

It depends on what sort of improvement you are after, the lake people will do a great job with creating more control and tightness of the bottom end, but will not add more or increase weight of it. I would agree with @DuerumBen that if you wanted more quantity of low end/bass with more warmth and a bit more roundness that going with something like a bottlehead crack + speedball or eufonika h7 or feliks echo or something of that sort will add more warmth and richness (in exchange for a bit less technical and looser bass). But the 600 is never going to be a basshead can or a headphone that puts most of itā€™s emphasis on low end

Itā€™s a Shame LP G111 doesnt have XLR balanced outputsā€¦
Iā€™ have likes to try HD600 with balanced cables.

Personally I donā€™t know if that would really matter or not, since the headphone itself doesnā€™t really care about being balanced, itā€™s all dependent on the amp. Itā€™s also something where balanced isnā€™t inherently better than single ended, so a good amp is a good amp, and being balanced doesnā€™t make something inherently better than a good single ended amp, Iā€™d be more concerned with the sound quality of the amplifier itself rather than if it has balanced or not imo

Yeah I agree.
I know people using HD600 with balanced cables in a Full balanced Setup that talk about completely new listening esperienceā€¦ A Wide Soundstage and more Dynamic soundā€¦
Anyway,talking about HD600 It has a peak at 8000/9000 hzā€¦
If I purchase a DAC with Chip Sabre,How It Will affect the tonality of the Headphone?
It Will make the Headphone too bright/harsh in the High End?
Lets Say Intel Nuc>Topping D50 or Gustard X16/>LKg111>HD600

I mean it all depends on what they were running it on. If you have a balanced amp, then the balanced output of that amp will sound better, so they are likely telling the truth (the single ended on a balanced amp are typically lackluster and afterthoughts), but if you put an equally good single ended amp in that setup and then compared, it would likely be a different story as theyā€™d realize that single ended can be equally worthwhile. Itā€™s just likely more a misattribution to something being balanced when in reality you are just using the amp as intended (as either they upgraded to a higher end amp that happened to be balanced and they are mistaking the improved sound quality from just going balanced and not the fact they bought a higher end amp, or they were using their balanced amp single ended and in that case the single ended output typically ignores half of the amp circuit)

It depends on the dac at hand, some sabre dacs are bright and harsh, some are not, it all comes down to implementation and the specific dac in question

I would say that the topping d50 will likely make things too bright as thatā€™s a brighter and more leaner focused dac, but the gustard wonā€™t do that as much. Personally I think Iā€™d go for a dac like a denafrips ares ii to go along with the lake people for a warmer and more fun experience but also offering more technical ability and performance than the topping or gustard. I think if you wanted a bit cheaper solution, Iā€™d look for an allo revolution dac with the nirvana smps as thatā€™s a more neutral and not brighter sabre dac, and that can even be adjusted to be warmer and more relaxed if you want in the settings (with itā€™s harmonics control and filter bypass settings)

What do you think bout AKM chip?

@mon

Ive a question:In order to use LPG111 at his full potential, having XLR input, the Better connection with a DAC would be via XLR?
I Need a DAC with XLR output.
What about connect DAC without XLR (only RCA) output with LKG111 Input RCA?
In terms of performance,How It Will change?
Thanks

It all depends on the dac at hand. At this point, new dacs using akm chips are hard to find due to the AKM factory fire and the shortage of the chips, so many mfg have switched to alternative chips, but there are still plenty of older used or dacs using those chips. But it really will depend on the specific dac at hand how it will sound rather than just the chips used

The XLR and RCA input on the unit sound very similar, I donā€™t think there is any real quality loss if you use the single ended inputs vs balanced, so just use whatever one the dac you have prefers

Donā€™t think I heard much a difference between XLR and RCA input on my unit

Headphone pairing advice needed

Gents,

Just purchased the G111, and after a few days, I agree with comments about this amp not sounding its best with planar headphones. In terms of DAC performance, my Aune X8 DAC seems sufficient for now, so Iā€™m more interested in finding a new headphone to pair with this amp. The DAC upgrade can wait.

From your experience, which dynamic driver headphone played really well with this amp?

Context
  • Ignore Focals ā€” theyā€™re uncomfortable for me.
  • Budget will be <$1,000 ā€” used is OK with me
  • You can ignore sound preference ā€” Iā€™m more interested in synergy right now (plus I enjoy different sound signatures)
  • You can ignore these headphones ā€” I already own them and they sound fantastic on this amp.
    1. 6XX
    2. Koss Porta Pros
    3. Sivga Pheonix
    4. Audeze Sine (the only exception to my above ā€œplanarā€ complaint)

Why am I looking for a new headphone?

  • I did not buy this amp for the above-mentioned headphones. It was meant to drive my LCD2Cs, which do not sound noticeably better on this amp when compared to the JDS Element II (IMO).
  • If I canā€™t find a dynamic driver headphone that makes me say ā€œholy shitā€ while playing on this amp, Iā€™ll probably sell it.
  • This amp sounds incredible with my low-end mid-fi gear, but I struggle to justify keeping it unless it pairs well with most of my top-3 headphones (it currently does not).

    My Top 3

    1. LCD2 Classic
    2. M1060C (Iā€™ll probably replace this with a dynamic headphone. Iā€™m barely using it these days.)
    3. HD6XX (pairs well, but I prefer these on my TA 26 amp)

Well outside of the aforementioned 6xx the 800s also pairs really well with this amp too, but outside senn Iā€™d say a beyer t1 gen 2 is a great pick here. A kennerton gjallarhorn is an interesting pick as well. Iā€™d also potentially consider something like a zmf auteur or eikon.

I know you already have the 2 classic, but really consider moving up to an lcd 2 pre fazor if you can find one used which I think is a direct upgrade to the classic in every way, and also will pair a lot better and actually take advantage of what the amp has to offer. The classic is somewhat gimped in itā€™s technical ability and itā€™s scaling so it isnā€™t all that responsive to amp upgrades imo. The 2 fazor is also good but less direct of an upgrade but still close enough imo.

Pre fazor and fazor are two separate headphones, correct?

So both are technically lcd 2, but different revisions, older lcd 2 had no fazor, but I think in 2014 they started adding fazors. Thereā€™s different community called revisions as well, but the bigger part is getting one without the fazor (which is what the classic tries, but doesnā€™t fully succeed, to replicate imo)

Thereā€™s more info here, but you will just have to look around, typically listings will label if something is pre fazor or not

But there are seemingly less for sale these days as they have gotten more desirable, a fair going price for a pre fazor is around 600 in good condition, perhaps 700 if it has a newer upgraded headband, although in the past they used to go for around 500 ish

I lack the energy to search for a used LCD at the moment, but Iā€™ll keep them in mind.

In the interim, Iā€™ll consider dynamic headphones that scale well. ZMFs interest me, for sure.

Appreciate the advice :+1:t2:

Hi Guys,Finally I Get LP G111ā€¦
What about Gain selector?I have to touch jumpers or default setting Is enough?

Unless you have all super sensitive loads (reduce gain) or all super tough loads (increase gain), Iā€™d leave it on the stock setting. I find that to be quite flexible. It will handle the harder driving half of the IEM market all the way up through HE6se v2 on the stock setting.

I Will pair LP G111 with HD600
I Hope I Will receive them in the next few Daysā€¦

Hi Guys,What about Gain Selector?
You use default settings (0 db) or You use + 6 Db/12 db?
I read that in Amplifier the ideal position of the Knob should be between 10/12 oā€™ clockā€¦
With gain set to 0 at 12 oclock with HD600 I Donā€™t reach the level of volume that satisfy me .

Finally throwing the DT880-600Ī© on the G111 and it is fairly impressive how fattened up the low-end is and treble rather controlled. Really, this should be the spot for people that like the 880 but find the presentation too lean. Normal listening occurs in the 12:00 vicinity on stepped-pot . A really nice amp for high-impedance cans, especially if theyā€™re neutral-bright in FR. At used-market pricing it is really the SE darling if you donā€™t need pre-outs. +resolution/microdetail/imaging/blackness/space. Trouble is, thereā€™s not a ton of them floating around.

I do feel like the A3 might be more diffuse in shape, wet and ā€˜funā€™ generally, with a good macro-orientation and very good timbre. It goes back to the 'tube-feel" of A3.
