Lets create a list of 'affordable' headphones / IEMs one could acquire to sample / enjoy a smattering of different sound profiles

by ‘affordable’ I mean quite inexpensive…$250…mebe $300 as the maximum the cans / IEMs can cost. and yes, used prices qualify if a more expensive set are often sold within the specified budget.

what sound profiles? whatever would replicate popular music genre’s at this price point. also, I know the DAC / Amp will have a significant effect on this, so let’s assume the sound chain is Spotify Premium going into the iFi Zen Air DAC and then into the Zen Air CAN.

  1. Tin HiFi T2 (neutral)
  2. Tin HiFi T4 (v-shaped)
  3. Sennheiser IE 300 (u-shaped)
  4. Final E3000 (bass enhanced)

Guessing we’re at or about $300 for all of the above.

I think a really good starting point for headphones is the Sennheiser HD6XX. They come in right under $200…They have been around for a while and a lot of people really enjoy them…There are even a few simple mods you can do to them if that is your thing.
