Let's talk about computers

Thanks, but that script solves a problem I don’t have but the noise is a good reason. My gear is all located in a spare bedroom closet. None of it can be heard unless the door to the closet and half rack are opened. I think we have this exchange a couple weeks ago.

Anywho, I’m super happy with DSM. It does the job exactly as I wish with zero fuss. I have other gear for experiements, etc

Ok with all of that being out now and with all the reviews have been positive with AMD, I gotta say that is impressive. But no, I am not surprised anymore when newer cards like that despite of it being all positive, it doesn’t mean jack shit when you cannot stay true to your word of it being under MSRP for real. Sure it might be at its designated MSRP for people who have Micro Center overall, but what about us who doesn’t have that access? What about the people from other places where the concept of a Micro Center doesn’t exist but are into the hobby? We’re not getting shit as always!

I really feel sorry for the people who have been enduring and still trying to breathe some new life with their old rigs but they are aware it is at its last wit, but they cannot fucking upgrade due to some uncontrollable bullshit when it comes to pricing. Also scalpers can go to hell! I hate them with every fiber of my being, for those assholes are the ones who ruined this hobby or any hobby’s overall appeal! No wonder I don’t blame people quitting this one for they are just simply sick of it. “Oh just save up money!” “Technology evolves faster therefore more expensive!” “Just be rich and not being poor.” Stupid fucking excuses, logic and reasoning right there as if that is so easy to achieve. If it was easy, then most of would have had those damn cards for a long time now! Sure technology evolves fast but when the newer cards like Nvidia’s 50 series does not improve the performance in a generational scale, it doesn’t mean shit!

So yeah I am still overall not surprised but disappointed as always, I really don’t see a reason for me getting an upgrade anytime soon, but for the others? It sucks for them and I feel for them in general. I might get clowned on this but PC building today fucking sucks!

afaik every launch since whenever nvidia 10 series launched has had the same problem. crpto, upgraders and scalpers compete for cards until supply catches up about a year after launch/crpto craze.

Yeah…I dunno what im supposed to do…

B580 doesnt seem to have any supply issues over here so that may be the only option for me…

(around 400 usd…)

It sucks for Europeans when it comes to the pricing, but you know what is even worse? Those who live on the other parts of the world, particularly from third world countries. So yeah, I am just going to be those guys who is just gonna have that mindset nowadays on PCs like: “As long my PC runs the games I play, I am all good. I don’t care anymore if it’s not on Ultra.” Then again most games have shit optimization, therefore it creates a pseudo reasoning to upgrade your rig, even though it’s the game’s broken messy port.

Im really lucky I mostly just play old games (wow, runescape and maybe some other mmo from 2015 ish).

Yeah that would be probably the best action today, even for me. I mean lately I haven’t been playing modern titles maybe expect for STALKER 2, for I genuinely wanted to support the devs who made the game despite the war. Lately it has been gacha games for me like ZZZ, WuWa, FGO, etc. For those games can at least damn run really well despite those titles are recent.

That is really ironic, when a gacha game that is free to play is more optimized than full fledged paid games.

I am praying for Stellar Blade to be really well optimized, for that game for me is looking promising. You know what I admit it, I am downbad on EVE so yes I am going to play it because of her.

Curious about Stellar Blade as well.

Not a fan of gacha monetization but really wished their games were released as single player without it…

Only modern game I really wanna try/play is Marvel Rivals…it crashes for me in like a few minutes due to lack of vram apparently and im at like 30fps with everything at low.

Yeah true, but fortunately Stellar Blade is that game and it’s one of the rare single player games that even with its base form is already complete and filled a lot of content, and I can praise Shift Up for doing that. Gacha rates are just fucking bad in general and no, I will never spend any money on those games especially, ESPECIALLY FGO.

That’s rough. Don’t buy that B580 at that price.
For a lot of people, the best time to buy a card was 8 months ago. Nvidia MSRP was real. Was supply good around that time where you’re at? Or is supply always bad?

shift up you say… I hear people play their games for the PLOT :joy:

yes “PLOT” along with some real shit like depression, sadness and existentialism as well when it comes to Nikke. That’s what makes their games so far compelling in a way.

Keep in mind Sweden has 25% vat and then there is ALWAYS a bit more expensive (due to resellers I guess). So with VAT it is 312,5 usd (based off 250 usd msrp, but these third party ones probably arent 250 msrp?) and then add a bit extra and here we go.

…my thought back then was that I was gonna get a new pc around the time windows ditch W10 support and thought that the next gen would always be better than the last…

dont remember hearing any issues with supply like this gen with both amd and nvidia though.

Sounds a lot like Nier Automata lol.

I guess it’s less overpriced than the competition.

Intel has mostly fixed the compatibility issues. But were you going to get a new CPU? The B580 has a bottlenecking problem on old systems

Yeah i would buy an entirely new pc.

The ryzen 7600 is what I have in mind. And I am aware that the CPU overhead issues also affects it. Just hoping it gets better in a few months.

I mean the CEO of Shift Up Kim-Hyung Tae and Yoko Taro are friends. So Stellar Blade and Nikke are pretty much inspired by Nier Automata when it comes to the themes and the design of the characters. Not to mention that there was a collaboration between Nikke and Nier back then. Overall, I am just hoping the eventual PC port of Stellar Blade is not broken and really well optimized.

its done on Unreal Engine 4 iirc? At least its not UE5 which seems to be where a lot of games have shitty optimization…although I heard its cuz its so easy to make games with it, that the people working on it doesnt need to be as skilled as before and why optimization is worse…

I never really get the hype about Unreal Engine 5, I thought games were already looking excellent with UE4. For sure there are some advancements when it comes to the overall looks of the visuals, models, textures and whatever the essential components that have been improved, but when the overall product will always result to shit performance, why not just step back and go back to a previous engine that you know both have the best results, visuals and performance.

Most fucking graphics are just the same nowadays, no distinctive art style and to be quite frank I am sick of the so called “realism” visual look. Give me more memorable art style where I can say by just looking at that game, I know that game already by its own unique art style.

Exactly, I still dont know if its entirely due to UE5 being junk with performance or if its due to all the companies (western specifically) firing their veterans and hiring newbies (DEI garbage…) so they just dont know how to optimize it better…

Yeah, realism is also the look that will end up aging the absolute worst. Look at the games with “realism” from like 2010 they look like junk nowadays. And then look at the even older games from like 2005 ish (like Wow and Runescape) and they have aged a LOT better. (case in point see how many people still play OLD school runescape.)

It’s the advancements in the lighting systems. Sure, the terrain texturing they can do using real world images is cool, but it’s the overhaul to lighting that makes UE5 such a big deal.
