Let's talk about computers

Must be a multi-layer board, you don’t want that many traces between the CPU and DIMM slots.

they totally ruined it with the VGA port tho… :frowning:

Depends on the usecase. For a NAS, I could see it being fine, as you’re not always gonna have peripherals hooked up

Anyone do any upgrades or new builds? Better get an order going ASAP if you are looking to!

can’t…what I want want isn’t out yet. Zen 3 this fall!

Someone made a PC thread already? How did I not see that.

I’m waiting for the next generation Nvidia cards so we can have HDMI 2.1 support for the first time. LG’s current OLEDs will support 4K 120 Hz with G sync one they’re out.

Hey, guys I’m not that updated on computer game unlike before i build this setup i think4-5 years ago i can still play any game on High to ultra-high settings on my 1080p 144hz monitor LOL (i like more fps thats why i haven’t get any 1440p monitor)
in 2020 what is the best price/pepormance build these days?

If you best price to performance then the Ryzen 3600 is easily the CPU you should go with. I’d strongly recommend it over that 6600K
GPU isn’t as clear cut. If you’re going AMD, then the RX 5700 should be powerful enough to give high framerates at 1080, Ultra. It depends on the kind of games your playing.

I would say Ryzen 3600 CPU and a 2060 Super GPU for starters.

Damn i guess my next build would be ryzen build thnx !

I’ve got a new monitor stand waiting for me back at my dorm when I return to school. I’m also looking into a new mech keyboard, but I’m not pulling the trigger on that yet.

I doubt it will evenm get here in time but then it happens its gonna be my upgrade

B550 mobo’s r are launching June 16th…confirmed by AMD. news was released yesterday with the announcements of the Ryzen 3 3100 & 3300X.

there is no Zen2+…jumping straight to the 3 n then 4 with PCIe 6 & DDR 5.

Something based on the Ryzen 5 3600 (maybe 3600X depending how prices are)
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yMRMrV

Part Price Note
Ryzen 5 3600 175 6c/12t
Thermalright Macho Direct 45 Could also go BeQuiet or Noctua
MSI X470 Gaming Plus 120 Nothing super special, but works
GSkill Ripjaws V 70 2x 8GB 3000MHz @ 16-18-18-38 timings (lower is better)
Samsung 970 Evo 100 500GB NVMe M.2
Seagate Barracuda 51 2TB 7200RPM
EVGA RTX 2060 Super 400 Could also go for a Powercolor RX 5700XT
Phanteks Enthoo Pro M TG 105 Quality case that does not look like crap
SeaSonic Focus Gold 100 550W quality power supply
TOTAL 1170

Was not sure if you needed an optical drive, the case has the option though.

You are right on B550. Wonder how I missed that.

Thing is: It will be budget boards for budget CPUs. So don’t expect anything good (also: There still is the problem, so don’t execpt availability before Q3, maybe Q4)

The performance increase will make it feel like that. 10 to 15-ish percent.

I doubt that. PCIe4 has yet to see adoption.
3nm is not before 2022

It was supposed to be the same for B350 and B450, but even they can handle a R9 at stock settings. The ones with better VRMs and VRM cooling can OC a R7.

B350 was low end, half the boards shared their VRM with A320 boards.

Without airflow in the socket area, B450 boards would throttle R7 CPUs (in CPU only loads, gaming is fine).
X470 boards are “cheap enough” to be used in R9 based builds.

B550 will have PCIe 4…and mobo leaks for coming boards using Intel’s Z490 chipset show the have PCIe 4 support as well.

Intel was going to leapfrog 4 and move straight to 5 but AMD forced their hand yo adopt it.

IPC gains for Zen 3 are projected to be 15 - 20% over Zen 2…stated by AMD themselves.

actual availability is another thing…
