I remember seeing some people complain about Firefox’s new UI design—which I didn’t like either. Here’s a custom theme that largely fixes it.
Hey guys, I am currently looking for a new possible motherboard that I can buy and use since I am planning to give my current motherboard to my brother who needs a new leeway for upgradability and the budget should be at least under $150. Do you have any suggestions that are better on my list right now? I am currently eyeing on the ASRock Steel Legend, MSI MAG B550M Mortar and Bazooka and the Gigabyte Aorus B550M Elite. Please let me know, so I can make a decision that I know it will be worth it in the end, thanks.
I would avoid MSi on the basis of shady business practices. Link
They are fine from a technical perspective.
Personally, I like ASRock (despite their BIOS being somewhat strange to navigate) and had good luck with their boards so far.
No experience with Gigabyte in the last while.
Yeah MSI has not been that good in terms of their business, and that is quite shitty of them to do such things. I have been using their MSI B450M BAZOOKA PLUS with no issues so far but I am willing to give them to my brother, so that me and him can have more upgrades in the near future. Any other recommendations that you know that I might take a look on?
Ah crap! That one does not have a stock here yet! But it looks pretty neat with features though. I might as well get the Steel Legend instead if there are no more to get out there.
What CPU are you using? And just for clarification, is it your brother who needs the leeway for upgradability, or you?
Both of us tbh, and I am using a Ryzen 7 3700x, while my little brother still uses a Haswell build that I used to have back in 2014 and he is currently using an i5 4460…so yeah.
Okay, that makes it a little easier. So if you wanted to just move to a 5800X, any of the boards would be fine. And you could also look at the ASUS TUF. That can usually be had for ~$150 as well. But if you wanted to move up to a 5900X, then the only board I’d rec is the Aourus Elite from that bunch. ASRock, from what I’ve gathered this time around, is the worst offender when it comes to throwing too much voltage into CPU’s when left to auto, so unless you planned to tune things yourself I’d shy away from them. Of course, if you can stretch you budget just a bit, the Strix-F can sometimes be had for $170-$180 and is a better board than any of these. And you could easily put a 5950X on it and not have any issues.
Alright noted, thanks for the suggestions.
Just don’t overspend on a MB currently since the 5000 series is the last one for this current socket. So if you ever want to upgrade past that you will have to replace the board.
I am going to probably guess AMD is going to try and not make a similar promise like they did with AM4 about having so many generations of support next time, but only time will tell what they end up doing.
That may not technically be true depending on what they do with the 3D-Vcache Zen3 refresh that’s supposed to be coming in Q1. I wouldn’t put it past them to try to rush a 6000 series AM4 if Alder Lake does particularly well this fall.
Yeah, after the Zen3/300-series fiasco they’d be stupid to promise too many years of platform compatibility. Especially if rumors about the first gen AM5 not supporting PCIE 5.0 turn out to be true.
Still not sure how available 3d Vcache Zen 3 is going to be, also to be fair there is a chance they do a split release of 6000 series on AM4 and AM5 depending on the availability of DDR5… though honestly I wouldn’t buy a MB hoping for zen3 vcache or 6000 compatibility.
With as supply constrained as everything is at TSMC, I’d expect that there would be Vcache versions of the 5950X, 5900X, and 5800X in varying supply quantities. But AMD’s CPU supply is finally starting to catch up to demand, so who knows? They might be able to do a full line-wide re-launch. As for compatibility, the Vcache CPU’s will definitely be compatible with 500-series boards, there’s no concern there. It’s just a question of whether they release those CPU’s as Ryzen 6000 series, or save the 6000 series moniker for Zen4 late next year.
Exactly, this is why I am getting one that is not too cheap and not too expensive. Also due to the given landscape of PC building lately, I am not sure if I will be able to afford the upcoming ones especially the GPUs, therefore I would probably not switching to an AM5 build anytime soon once it has a release. I would do that, if the prices are much more affordable to most people, but I don’t see that shit happening anytime soon.
Speaking about PSUs from Gigabyte, Fuck! I own a Gigabyte PSU and it’s an AORUS with 750W Gold Plus. I just hope mine will not blow up, but I think it’s fine since I bought it before this shit of exploding PSUs came to light today,.
Probably fine, it seems to be a specific model line. Though to be fair since they are doing such shady junk I am just never going to buy a Gigabyte PSU… though to be fair I pretty much only buy from a couple of companies and Gigabyte was never one of them anyways.
Yeah I think I would have preferred a Seasonic PSU or some other brands that are known for their top quality PSUs. I never had problems with Seasonic, but so far no problem on my Gigabyte model, for now.
Seasonic is one of my preferred brands. Just not for ITX.
