S12 came with 3 type of tips. Very nice! I used the foamies, as I guess they are presented as standard. Did someone made measurements with the 3 tip types? What are your experiences with different packaged tips?
Received.
I am immediately happy with the resolving power: like the sound is diamond cut without pushing the upper mids too highâmy ears are happyâthe treble range is extended and raised so it can add a feeling of little specks of glass shards next to all the diamond edges: anything with old microphone static that simulated or otherwise would be like putting your ear next to an old CRT television as there is no natural fuzz (at least while listening to Typewrite Lesson ~Cornelius) it is straight up sizzle or hiss. I liked everything else I have listened to for the time being (Tanz Mit Mir ~Datassette, Yodaâs Theme ~Berliner Philharmoniker). The included cable is gorgeous, thicc, and has a nice flush fit with the S12 IEMs so I donât see any red on the right plug.
The DT02 works on my phone as well as my LG V20 (that I use as a DAP), and seems to have plenty of power for the S12. I am looking forward to receiving a balanced cable as well to test out the 2.5 mm balanced on the DT02 and see how well the CS43131 is perceptively implemented. I considered the DT02 a minor gamble because LetShuoer hardly lists any information, but it, at the very least, seems better than an Apple Dongle (although drains power more than the Apple Dongle) and appears better than the V20 DAC normal mode (0.5V_RMS).
The LetShuoer S12 fits my ears really well, which is a lucky unexpected bonus, consider me a superfan now.
âUpdateâ
I have been getting weird random small pops on the DT02. Verified that it happens on computer as well.
Now that I hear the pops, it is all that I hear. Poly Rhythm Slowly Sped up Become Perfect 5th Music Interval - YouTube
Nevermind on Windows, the DT02 didnât not initialize nicely, turned down the sample rate and bit depth, so no more pops or clicks (yes, I am an idiot). On the plus side, I figured out my system latency is not an issue. I still donât know why the pops happened, e.g. if the buffer is too low for the generic driver that is used.
Still have to figure out what is causing the clicking and popping on Android. Hiby Music Player (Free) with Exclusive HQ USB audio access does not seem to have any pops or clicks. There are still clicks on switching songs. So it would seem that an app with exclusion mode is necessary to avoid the random pops while playing tracks. My AAL collection plays great on Hiby app with S12 and DT02.
From my understanding, it must be the buffer limiting playback rates, I donât think LetShuoer is going to release a driver. I think I need to venture down the ASIO rabbit hole to see if I can get higher rates than 44.1 KHz without clicks and pops.
Did you try the Timeless?
No I havenât tried the 7Hz Timeless, but I strongly considered it before it shot up $50 more from hype.
The S12 had three things that I wanted:
- A 2-Pin connector (and a rather nice looking cable) instead of MMCX.
- IEM shells that wouldnât attract as much attention as the 7Hz Timeless (I am not into ear gauge looking IEMs even though I think it is cool that they look like records).
- A cheaper price for a planar that is close enough to the 7Hz Timeless.
Mhm, how do thw snare hits sound on S12? It sounds a bit fuzzy on Timeless.
What sets do you think snares sound good at? I cannot think about one IEM where those are particularly realistic sadly (looking at Tea, S12, Olina, KZ CRN)âŠ
There is may be some fuzz, but it may be highlighting the microphone or it could just be general planar fuzz. I guess I will have to listen to Rosanna - TOTO, Superstition - Stevie Wonder and compare IEMs against my budget tier bookshelfs until I get sick of it.
I will have to look to see if there are some planar mods and see if those upper treble frequencies can get softened or diffused a tiny bit, the foams help a small part. I havenât even started playing with EQ.
S12 is great for detail; however, like the Timeless (from what I have read), suffers from the lack of soundstage depth, which becomes particularly apparent on binaural recordings: close your eyes in a dark quiet room and no matter how hard you try to picture any depth, it isnât going to happen.
??? the driver doesnât affect soundstage itâs the design of the shell/housing/open or closed back and how far away it is that alter soundstage
I think you are correct that how the driver is enclosed matters, but at this point I have never really heard a planar with great imaging. If you look at a standard closed, with vent hole style IEM case, the planar will have great positional audio, and some even get good soundstage, but the instruments tend to feel like they are the same distance away. Take a similar casing of a DD, and it will be totally different experience.
That said, planar IEMs are pretty new, so it could be figuring out what is different about casing them. We have decades of shoving a single DD in tiny ear bud or IEM, so those are the most evolved form of the technology. I think we can look forward to all of the less common audio tech getting better.
I am not sure 100% to be honest, since my personal pair got sent away for another tour. However, I think if you can just tame that 8K peak a little it should do well.
I donât agree! And with a perfect construction of the shell, the planar driver still have a flat sound stage. With the same or similar design, DD or hybrids have a different sound stage.
i tried lowering 8k by 3-6db on a eq but human voices were still too bright and thin with a little sibilance, i had similar pb on heart mirror (trebble too bright) until i taped the front vent to add bass to balance the excess brightness but taping front vent on s12 did not add bass i guess planar donât behave the same way DD do. for human voices i prefer olina that has more natural timbre and more body ( but for details and bass s12 is better than olina)
I remember reading that you had to tape the rear vents on the timeless to give a bass boost. Maybe try blocking those?
Lots of praises from Dave! Good to see him mention that it scales really well with more power.
Bit surprised by his comment on staging: I donât find S12 to have as much depth or height as the Olina or Oxygen. I would say itâs decently wide though.
Anyway, Iâm enjoying the S12+front vent mod as a bassy set for busy tracks from EDM and jazz genres
I was trying to adjust 8khz that too, first hours i listened to them.
Now i donât need anymore, iâm pretty sure they need some burn in time. And they sound realy better with latex tips such as Azla Xelastec and i changed cable for a balanced 2.5 pure copper cable.
Iâm listening them with a R3 pro saber. I donât need anymore EQ but iâm using the MSEB functions to adjust level of details/ air / clarity / tonality (warm-cold) sibilance/ note weight / bass extension, depth and texture / vocals.
For the basshead, i can adjust bass from very light to monster.
It works pretty well, much better than an EQ, and better than a parametric EQ that i use with my phone with USB pro player. I own many iems, these sounds exeptionnal.
Really no need to mod them for basses and trebles.
I donât think many iems will please to everyones tastes, these respond very well to adjustments.
Many testers says that they are testing without EQ, stock tips, stock cable,âŠ
Is it a good thing, maybe yes for what you get, but certainly not for what you can improve for your personnal taste and/or at a limited cost.
Could I see your MSEB configuration please? I have the same dap
PSA: final E eartips work so well for me on my S12, that I have to be careful removing them due to suction created by the excellent seal lol.
