If it isnāt obvious yet, I mainly listen to older prog rock. Tonight dug out the S12 and thought this album would be a good thing to give them a thorough run through. Tomorrow might switch out to the Dioko to test separation on both using this album.
Great soundtrack to a great movie
The story of Heidi is very famous in Germany/Austria/Switzerland but I donĀ“t know about the rest of the worldā¦have some of you heard about it before?
Iāve got a lot of catching up to do looking through all these!
Iāve loved whenever this artist has come up on Amazonās recommended shuffle:
Khruangbin
Just googling them now I never would have imagined it was only a trio, or was from Texas with a Thai nameā¦ I straight up imagined they were North African like Tinariwen.
This is a head bobbing shoulders swinging JAM:
This is a chill track I imagine David Lynch using somewhere. Something about how the main motif keeps getting repeated without embellishing it more, it just keeps coming around with casual swing.
Another head bobber toe-tapper, with some romantic alhambra style licks along the way:
And something Iāve loved for how the Arabic drifts:
Canāt get enough of it.
All the above listened to with the EST50 because I still have them in my ears from testing out Metallica.
They are SO spacious and so charming loud, really is akin to full HP or heck even speakers, very immersive, good sounding. MAN that 1:08 drop!!!
Iād never seen the music video before. Watching that on a largish screen with the EST50s in is on the verge of overwhelming and thrilling. Massive props to 3D animators syncing to a beat.
EDIT: Wow, rationally my mind is like āItās a good beat with CGI with a lot of lighting effects, itās not that emotionalā but Iām really feeling it in my chest and getting a little adrenaline. Tactility of the bass impact is a large factor I think, as well as the stage.
This is the biggest memory I have of Heidi!
āThe Heidi Game or Heidi Bowl is the name given to a 1968 AFL game between the Oakland Raiders and the visiting New York Jets. The contest, held on November 17, 1968, was notable for its exciting finish, in which Oakland scored two touchdowns in the final minute to win the game 43ā32. However, a decision by the gameās television broadcaster [NBC] to break away from its coverage on the East Coast to broadcast the television film Heidi caused many viewers to miss the Raidersā comeback.ā
I never did see the film, but perhaps the musical score might be worth checking out.
Haha nice story, many people must have been mad at Heidi
You have no idea! Poor Heidi, she got a raw deal on that day!
I have mad respect for Donald Johnson of Khruangbin. Seen the dude play the drums with one hand, and simultaneously play keyboard with the other.
Saw Iggy live years agoā¦ I always loved his uniquenessā¦
Campfire Audio Supermoons plugged into my Cayin N8ii which is serving up all the hi-res entertainment for this morning.
At the top of the queue is a more recent discovery for me, Molybaron and their 2021 album, The Mutiny. These guys are based in France and they have a great straightforward hard rock leaning metal kinda sound. Their playing is tight, songwriting and arranging is spot on, and their singer can really belt it out. Their songs are infused with a kind of raw energy I really enjoy. Iād definitely recommend people check this album and this band out.
Definitely a song I can get into as well. Yasā earlier stuff is great technically and it has good emotional pull if it clicks with your mood. Good pick!
Listening to my recently acquired Hifiman OG HE400s (grill mod, Sorbothane mod) running off my Schiit Lyr (1975 6n23p Reflector Silver Shields) with the Modi Multibit 2 decoding all the bits and pieces. These OG HE400s are just super fun to listen to. Not as refined as the HE560s, but they have a certain raw and playful energy that makes listening to them refreshingly fun.
At the top of my queue is Leprousā 2021 effort entitled Aphelion. Plenty of thunderous, pounding drums to let the HE400s show off their bass. Lots of atmosphere, spatial cues/effects, and layered/harmonized vocals which is right in the MMB2ās wheelhouse. Mix that together with a heaping helping of dynamics and detail which the Lyr is great at bringing out in planars, IME, and youāve got yourself an incredibly engaging listen. Moments like this are what keep me interested and engaged in this hobby.
First track Iāve tried by them on YouTube is The Lighthouse, what a fat bass guitar sound! I get what you mean about āstraightforwardā, but in a good way, Iām enjoying this.
EDIT: Scrolled down a bit - I quite like prog rock but itās never been a main genre for me - I love to see Leprous here though! I found out about them from this forum, there arenāt many (any) bands combining the instrument sound with that kind of vocal approach.
Parasite is one of the things the VE Super Nova has reproduced best so far. I have a half hour window to use non-isolating headphones so Iāve been giving them a spin.
Nostalgic to see all those scenes from London. Iām not necessarily fond of them, but familiar with them, especially from the a train window. The less familiar parts are Manchester apparently.
@Rinderkappajoe Mum read Heidi to me and my sisters growing up in the UK! We did tend towards more old-school books/film though, not sure if it is a staple for most. Nice track!
