I know right! I love it when an album or song grabs you right from the jump. I just wish these guys would put out more stuff!
Speaking of guys that should put more out, I really like this group but since forming in 2008 they have managed 1 album and 2 EPās.
Dirty Loops - Work Shit Out
Perfect album for a quiet Thursday morning (when Iām supposed to be working, but am actually exploring new music)
Trying to sneak in a quick session! Iām jonesinā for some music. Itās been a bad week. Right now, this is hitting the spot.
Hopefully I can sneak in later this evening and get some more time in. Thatās a lot of sneaking, eh?!?

Talking with @MMag05 about his recent acquisition of a pair of OG TRI i3s has me on a little I3 kick into the wee hours of the morning. Iām currently running my OG i3s off my A&K Kann Alpha which is providing the musical entertainment for this sesh.
As for music, I have on an album from 2019 by a band named The Wrong Object entitled Into The Herd. This album is a cool little fusion piece with funky elements, bluesy influences, and some swinging jazz stuff to bring it all together. Just a fun listen on a laid back and fun pair of IEMs. Just what the doctor ordered if you ask me!
Itās Friday, Yāall! This has been a week. But Iām home, the system is on, and I am going for an absolute classic.
Oh my gosh. I have not listened to this in a very long time. Bliss is what is coming to mind. I have to say, this system is doing a fine job. I feel like Iām in the room. Happy Friday, everyone. Or Good Friday. Or International Beaver Day, apparently. Enjoy the nightā¦

I guess I am still in that groove, so here is another good one! For my Bass player brother!
Believe it or not, I got to play tenor sax on stage with Dave Brubeck on the piano and some other great musicians at the Monterrey Jazz Festival way back when I was 16 y/o! One of my favorite memories of performing music live. My saxophone and music theory teacher studied and taught with Brubeck at the LA Jazz Workshop and played with him in the band by the same name assembled by members and students of the actual workshop. Long story short, my saxophone teacher had me practicing for months to do a version of Coltraneās song Chasin The Trane which is basically a bunch of improvisation over a damn difficult progression and time change backdrop thatās considered to be one of the tests of an up and coming tenor player. I was so freaking nervous just being up there, but then to have guys like Brubeck, Lenny Pickett, and Peter Erskine on stage with me listening and playingā¦ Surprisingly, I actually held it together and played well. That was the first time I experienced the mental zone you get into when youāre on stage and itās time to perform. It was an amazing feeling that Iām still addicted to all these years later.
Lettuce is good stuff! Who doesnāt like to get a little funky every now and again? You and I have similar signal chains (at least when Iām at home), just swap out the Spring 3 for the May KTE and I would love to hear how the Susvaras do on it. Theyāre on my short list for the next TOTL headphone to pick up. I would have them now, but Expanse getting surprised released at CanJam SoCal intervened and changed my plans. I think the low end articulation and depth on the Susvaras gets overlooked by a lot of people and I think it would suit something funky like Lettuceās sound quite well.
If you donāt mind me asking what voltage settings are you using with the Sus?
Iāve not heard the Expanse but, others I know have and they said good things about it, bass in particular.
I have the Hypsos set at the nominal 24v and I run the OOR at medium gain ā0ā. I found that best to my tastes with the Holo DAC (balanced). When I worked the Hypsos at higher voltage it became too clinical for my preferences and when I ran the voltage lower, the bass impact improved a bit but, also became a little bloomy with some loss of bass detail and texture - again to my ears with my library and setup.
Currently running the DCA Expanse off the GS-X Mini with the Gustard R26 decoding all the bits and pieces.
Listening to Mysteryās 2020 live album Caught in the Whirlwind of Time. Great sound quality on the hi-res live version. Whoever did the recording for this album did a fantastic job capturing the music, the atmosphere/space of the venue, and the audience. Itās a great listen in the wee hours of a Saturday morning during the post-show comedown phase.
Man, there is so much to love about this post itās mind-blowing. The fun thing is I can relate a little bit, I played some ball in High School and did a little (very little!) theater in middle school. Obviously NOTHING like what you did/do, but at least I know those feelings on some level. Helps me visualize it better. Awesome, dude.
And speaking of music, Iām shifting gears a bit. Currently enjoying this one.
This may be a repeat play, but hey, I like it! Changed the chain, too. The LP is getting the night off.

Actually bro, I think youād be surprised at how close the feeling is to what you feel before and/or during a championship game or something similar. It is for me anyways. The crowd and the energy at a live concert are different and you feed on that and thatās where it starts becoming something different, but itās all based on that same feeling weāve all been getting since we were in little league and up to bat with two outs, or trying to score in a big hockey/soccer/basketball game when you have the puck/ball and time is winding down, etc, etcā¦ Itās a damn cool feeling! And donāt even get me started on the rush when you pull it offā¦
Iām finally hitting the wall where Iām gonna be passing out soon (itās 7AM here ) so Iām finishing off my sesh with something chill. Iāve got my āLush, Clear, and Punchy 300sā (DIY buds w/ 300ohm LCP drivers and a copper shell) running balanced off my Cayin N8ii. Side note: Not to toot my own horn, but I can make same damn good buds. Iām really proud of them and itās very cool to listen to your own creation especially when it comes out this good.
For music Iāve got Two Door Cinema Clubās 2016 album Gameshow at the top of my queue. Just some cool, laid back indie pop goodness full of catchy hooks and chill vibes. Good stuff!
How cool. I didnāt even know you could do that. I have no clue when it comes to in-ear technology. Because of everything I have been through with my head/ears, I am not allowed to put anything in my canals. Kind of a bummer, but Iām not complaining.
Sleep well, Sir. Iām gonna finish up with yet another classic. And one that takes me back for sure.

Brubeck! What a great storyā¦and yes itās a magical feeling.
Actually, the buds Iām talking about are traditional flathead buds. Can you wear that style since they donāt go in your ear canal? Pic of my Lush, Clear, and Punchy 300s:
Edit: BTW, this build cost me about $35 all in (cable and everything) and the resulting buds are tuned exactly to my preferences and hold their own with many of my much more expensive premade buds. Each successive build I have done has only gotten better and I learn new tricks each time so Iām very excited to see just how good my buds get in the future. Making your own DIY buds is awesome and you can obtain TOTL performance for much less money as long as youāre willing to experiment a bit and learn on the job. Over ear builds generally donāt save you the same money (proportionate to headphone cost of course), they take much more time, and none of my builds have resulted in TOTL-competitive headphones.
