Amen, brother. My bride and I have a solid understanding around this. If I want something, I have to save up for it. I get an allocation of funds for my personal use that does not infringe on those monies earmarked to pay bills and such. This is what I use to “feed the beast” if you will!
Yes, it’s kinda painful because things take a longer time to acquire than I would like, but it’s a reasonable approach and one that definitely keeps the house harmonious. Often times, once I get to within a couple hundred bucks of my goal, she will just green light the purchase. She’s pretty amazing like that!
% agreed and I have a very similar arrangement with my better half and hobby purchases. I’ve been selling stuff I don’t use or need to fund my recent purchases. She digs that and we also plan to do that with “our” stuff to fund neat things we can both share.
This is one of those that has a strong connection to my youth. I’m spending more time with the Da Vinci hooked up to the SH-9 tonight. Fantastic. “Foreplay/Long Time” just played, and I swear I am hearing things I have never heard before. Brad Delp could flat out sing, man. The harmonies on this song are mind blowing. The SH-9 is turning out to be a super amp for IEMs.
Tom Scholz built much of the electric equipment he used in recording that album in his own house. He also played most, if not all of the instruments. The band Boston, didn’t exist at the time the album was recorded. The record label rejected the album because they considered it to be just a demo he recorded at home. From what I understand he then took the album & made some changes to it, probably just a remix, & the record label then signed him. Then he had to form the band, Boston, so they could tour to sell the album.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing. I didn’t know that the record was initially rejected. Always great to learn new/old things! You have probably seen this already, but just in case, here is a great piece by Rick Beato breaking down “More Than a Feeling”.
They are still one of my all time favorite bands…They sound just as good live as they do on recordings…After all of these years they still put on a good show.
