Agreed! They fell off my radar for a long while but then their most recent work showed up in my Spotify Release Radar so I gave it a listen and immediately was like, man they sound just as good now as they did back during the late 90’s when I started listening to them. There are several songs I like from their newer releases.
Some bands (singers mainly) unfortunately don’t sound the same anymore due to father time and the effects on our bodies (largely depending on how we take care of ourselves). Dave Mustaine (MegaDeth), Joey Belladonna (Anthrax), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), and others sadly (to my ears anyway) lost their apex voices.
On the flip side, singers like Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran), Jim Kerr (Simple Minds), and many others thankfully still sound “the same” and are ageless in their presentation. My girl sings actually and I really hope she can retain her amazing voice like forever. Total bias right there but you get what I mean.
I noticed that a while back too and what’s even more odd is that sometimes it works fine. When I post in the music thread on the other forum, it works just fine every time.
@Ohmboy@RBRIII Yeah, The YouTube app got some kind of facelift or something, it behaves in a different manner than it used to now. This change happened just within the last week or so.
Yeah, they seem to be changing stuff from time to time and sometimes it is a step back imho. The old saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…” comes to mind…
I’ve got that on 180 gram vinyl. Trouble is I don’t have a working record player anymore. I recently acquired a NAD C165BEE though, which has a pretty nice phonostage built in. I should find a decent player & a decent record cleaner & get back to enjoying vinyl again.
Another one that sounds just as good if not even better now than he did years ago is Robert Smith from the Cure.
My wife and I went saw bush last summer at a smaller outside venue. Awesome show…I know DMB gets a lot of hate, but I am taking the wife to see him for the first time…I have seen him a lot through out the years, although this is the first time I will ever see him in an indoor venue.
Nice, sounds like a fun time and I hope you both enjoy it! I got back into DMB earlier this year as I was ripping some of my old CD collection to FLAC. I forgot how good some of those songs were and the production quality on the first 3 albums is most excellent. I have at least 5 songs of his I use to critically listen to music gear with (mainly tubes and IEMs atm).
Also, agreed on Robert Smith. I’m glad too since that’s another one of my fav artists. Some of the B-Sides from the Join the Dots album are great additions to the collection.
