I just spent another enjoyable 20 minute visit to Rick Beatoā€™s wonderful YouTube channel where he expertly & enthusiastically dissects Chicagoā€™s hit ā€œMake Me Smileā€ā€¦
Not really a post of a song here but an emotional portrayal of what truly makes great music great.
In any event, itā€™s one of the many great songs Iā€™m "Listening to tonight "
Cheersā€¦

I am enjoying a Saturday morning session rockin to this play list that I have been building on Amazon HD. Every album I listen to I will take the 2 songs I liked best and dump them onto the playlist. After a while you end with a nice, long list of great tunes! One of the things I like about this service. Anyway, that is what has me goin today.

AMHD > Douk U2 Pro > Schiit BF2 > XDUoo TA-20 Pre > SMSL DA-9 > Triangle Borea BR02 w/REL TZero MKiii sub

oh man, Getz/Gilberto on tubesā€¦Iā€™m in audio heaven

Bought the new RHCP album. Didnā€™t really care for the one released earlier this year.

Thatā€™s a nice pair of speakers. Is the Yamaha as-501 a bright sounding amplifier?

The a-s501 is a little bit bright, and pairs better with my dali zenzor 1 speaker than the B&W to be honest, but i usually end up switching it about every so often as i both speakers have different qualities. I also have a Denon pma-600ne (that has a more fixed setup with a pair of Dali Oberon 3 and a sub) and that amp is just that little bit more ā€œwarmā€ in its sound. Not a huge difference, but i would say it is the more rounded of the two. I would recommend both amps though, but if you have a speaker that is already on the bright side, the yamaha might not be the best option (although you could always adjust the treble and bass on the amp, but i keep them neutral and the amp in its ā€œpure directā€ mode)

*note that this is just my opinion, and in my listening space. A different room, dac and listening positions might yield different results

Thanks a lot. I drive my Kef Q350s with a Topping Pa3s, using the smsl sk10mk2 as a dac. It would have been perfect it the top end was a bit more extended. Iā€™m considering to get a bright sounding amp.

Since my references are limited to the Denon amp (and an old onkyo surround receiver), there might be better options out there too in that price range, but at least that is my experience. The Yamaha feels like it has solid build quality (bought mine in januar 2019 and it has been used almost every day since) and compared to my Denon it has the advantage A and B set of amped output so you can switch between speakers with a knob instead of unplugging and plugging in again when you want to compare

Yeah, solid build quality is rare nowadays. Iā€™ll keep digging for better options though. Thanks.
