Honestly, I am unsure how much to trust those graphcs all considering. Their graphs posted for the dt 1990s elite velour doesn’t seem right as the other graphs I have seen are much more drastic on the treble reduction meanwhile they seem to say the fenestrated sheep skin is okay for them but I have seen graphs that state otherwise.
yeah… and the graphs for the Dekoni Platinum and Choice Suede are mysteriously the same, like exactly the same but in different colors… but I’m going to trust in magic on this one—Dekoni Elite Hybrids aren’t give strong recommendations for nothing, so we’ll see…
I think theres different levels of V sounding headphones out there. Most V shaped headphones seem to be mildly V shaped. The strongest V shaped ive heard are the Helios and the DT770. more milder V shapes are the Aiva’s and the Elex. maybe the Ebony.
I spontaneously remember the The Audioquest Nighthawk or the Shure Srh 1440.
But I can’t tell you how both are.
The Nighthawk you always left something about. You can see if one of the two is possibly something.
Sounds to me like you should just buy a set of leathers for your DT and see what happens. Who knows, you may really like it. You could get sheepskin and perforated XL pads from Brainwavz for less than $50. It would be a good experiment, and you may end up really liking it.
Yeah, I look forward to hearing the results you get.
I did notice this myself. The strongest V shape I have heard personally is definitely the DT 990s(which definitely gets fatiguing after a while) and the 1990s when you use their balanced pads. 770 is a closed back so is ebony aiva had next to zero bass presence to my ear and was just brightness it sounded fairly close to a dt 880 which I dislike. I might be SOL on this particular search of mine lol. Not looking for a super sharp V signature. I just like bass and treble but mids “are where the music is at” so it’s welcomed. I should have probably tossed W signature in there as well come to think of it. I know helios can use leather padding but I haven’t heard real good things bout that for starters and I know it’s more of an intimate aggressive headphone in its staging
the shures are outside of budget and require a pad swap and I own the nighthawks they are not a bright headphone they are a warm and Dark headphone.
I have these actually since I bought them for the 177x go back when I had it still. Doesn’t sound good to my ears bass becomes very muddy and overwhelms the mix in most cases. It’s just not a good pairing.
I have never really been one to just buy something to see what happens. I am pretty particular on budgeting despite spending quite a bit on the hobby. I would sooner look up graphs or ask for insight which is what I am doing now. Surely, there is someone on here with pads for the DT that can offer some knowledge on that instead.
out of the 4 you listed this is the one I do not own. AD700x is not a not a v signature it has recessed bass with some slightly raised highs, a terrible headband, very plastic cheap design, uses velour pads and mids and highs are forward. Fidelio x2 hr is a Warm smooth headphone and fairly balanced also not a bright or V shaped headphone and also uses velour pads. 58x jubilee is a balanced headphone it is by no means a bright or V signature again using velour pads with a skull crushing headclamp out of the box, it’s nice but not what I am looking for. Lastly is the Samson which I just looked into has recessed base fairly neutral forward mids and raised highs by a pretty large margin, uses velour pads. All of these are not what I am looking for.
I mean, don’t get me wrong I do appreciate the help but so far the suggestions haven’t been what I posted that I am looking for. All headphones so far have been balanced, warm, recessed bass, closed back, or just outside budget. @LeDechaine made a very solid recommendation at the start however, while interesting it doesn’t have that signature I am looking for. The other recommendation was the shure which apparently responds well to a leather pad swap goes outside of budget. All other recomendations have been outside of my search
Increasing the budget would kind of beat the purpose of this search. I already own the aeon open x, which is a V signature planar that uses leather pads despite being open back and sounds good. So I am looking for a more budget option in this case to see if theres something else out there.
Yeah, I realized that this particular type of headphone is unusually uncommon. The only one I have seen like it would probably be like the Superlux when it’s modified but I am definitely not a fan of that. Swapping a 990 or 1990 pad out could very well be the solution I just don’t really know lol. Everyone I have asked says the Beyers don’t respond real well to that
No, everything is OK.
With Aoen you really have nothing bad to say, and honestly you have to really search and test if you want to surpass it or are looking for something equivalent that goes in this direction.
Theoretically, this would only be possible with the Fostex, Emu with the exchange of the cups, which however does not meet your wishes with regard to the construction.
At least I think what other people think about it I would of course be open to it.
And I think I’ll abstain at this point, partly because I can’t think of anything else.
To make false recommendations or think where I mean that could happen.
Which is not bad on my part either.
Hmm, so far the search goes unresolved. To reiterate so nobody has to dig to the top here. Looking for a particular headphone. Open-Back, one of the 3 Signatures being Bright, V, or W however if the bass is recessed I am not interested, can make use of a type of leather based pads(sheepskin, perforated, choice leather, etc essentially of those that aren’t a hybrid) without destroying the sound, Wide soundstage with accurate imaging, lastly budget of $300 while I can raise the budget this beats the purpose of my search.
Yeah…I remember a certain someone advising me not to swap the pads, but then I said “fook it” and did it anyways. Sometimes you just gotta experiment and who knows, maybe you’ll just like what you hear!
I mean, I would but I feel it would be an awful waste seeing how theres a shit load of different pads that could be used to test the sound with. ZMF, Brainwavz, and Dekoni to name a few. I would end up spending quite a bit on just pads lol. Better for me to ask those that may have this stuff in house
VELOUR EARPADS: This model is a whole lot more comfortable, too, with the same angled hybrid pads.
Frequency is right, which I wasn’t aware that hifiman had a V signature to begin with the issue I have is those pads.
I had those kind of pads back when I had the 400i very uncomfortable for me. If there a pad replacement that doesn’t destroy the sound I can buy those for $75 right now which is pretty damn cheap.
