They do play really well with eq and I’m glad to hear another person doesn’t mind eq. Hearing that I think you will love them then. They take to eq better than the majority of headphones I own. Especially Sennheiser’s.
Yeah, I actually need to invest in an actual equalizer. I just use the Peace APO software. Was thinking about getting a Schiit Loki to go alongside my asgard 3 and liquid platinum since I use a bifrost 2 dac. Kind of wondering how well it will do with the beyers though I have heard great things about the Loki
If you do get one I hope you share you impressions of it. I have been interested in one myself and it would be nice to have for when I don’t want to be at the pc. Peace has served me well over the years and for some reason I always enable it just to make sure nothing ever clips so I would probably still use it anyway.
Same, I think it’s a great program but I don’t think it will beat out an actual equalizer like the Loki though I am not well experienced in that area. I will probably open a forum asking for ideas behind that later on just to be sure. If I do get it though yeah I wouldn’t mind sharing my opinion on it.
blue balanced pads for the dt1990 seem the strongest v shape
Zeos did a review of eq’s a while back. said the schiit loki was the best. but minidps gives the most control
Sorry if this is not the proper thread to post these in but just found some decent graphs on the loki. Tempting…
I did just say this yeah blue balanced pads are for the V on the 1990s and it does sound great. however, if comparing to the dt 990 though the dt 990 has an even stronger V to my ears it’s just that the treble is quite a bit much for a lot of people is the issue with it. Trust me on that one, 990s are definitely stronger on this. I can barily even recommend that headphone less I know for sure that person is not treble sensitive.
@Mrcrunch08 nah that’s fine I appreciate the graphs as that is really interesting. This thread is pretty much done, for now, as I am waiting for the products that were suggested to arrive so I can test them out. Hmm, it makes me curious… I wonder i the loki could brighten up my aeons without causing some weird distortions like Peace tends to do… Would make it perfect for me.
yeah you may have realized by now i got a bad memory lol
Hype train may cause brain damage. lol
If all you want is ethereal treble maybe you should consider Stax.
I don’t feel like stabbing my wallet though lol
So, a few things here… first off, these shure 840 pads are so uncomfortable! Just ugh pancake pads and stiff ones at that. These are definitely going back. I even tried these on my hyperx and these are thinner and stiffer material than even those are the only plus side is they actually fit my ears lol. If theres a thicker alternative that would be good but these are definite no go.
So, I could have a bad copy of these HE-35x but I really don’t hear that brightness with my copy I have. I hear some slightly raised treble but it’s not sharp at all to my ears no sibilance. They do have some sparkle but not a lot and a very good balanced amount of bass though I wouldn’t call it real bassy. It’s really not bad for $50
I am not the biggest fan of the headphone itself but these pads are actually pretty nice for a cheap set of plush thick memory foam pads. Probably keep the pads but send the headphone back.
In terms of V signatures this is decent but I wish it had a bit more brightness and high notes to it.
So I finally received the Dekoni Elite Hybrids to pad swap the DT990s and… I prefer the Dekoni Choice Leather… To go into further details, the Choice Leather is punchier, bassier, warmer, louder, has more body and generally is more musical or enjoyable to listen to compared to stock pads, but loses some soundstage in the process… Compared to the Choice Leather, the Hybrids have a lighter, airier, farther away sound but still retains the bass and kick, it just doesn’t kick as hard… but still way more than stock! The mids and treble are retained better, and I especially appreciate the extra vocal presence, but that isn’t enough to make me switch. The Choice Leather is simply more fun to listen to and while the Hybrid’s airy presentation is cool, it’s all about body, kick, and presence for me!
Well alright then. Sounds definitely interesting I will have to give those a shot later on. Probably try them on the 1990s as well see how they perform.
Both pads are good choices. For me it really just came down to the feel of the music and what I preferred… I’m not sure what feel you’re looking for but you mentioned liking “ethereal” sound so maybe the Hybrids will be more to your liking?
Well, the Ethereal is nice granted but I am always willing to test out alternatives. Never been a fan of hybrids. Will go ahead and order the choice probably later on. Though I am kind of curious at the new dekoni midnight series.
I’ve looked at what Dekoni has to offer with their “Earpadz” and unless you’re a koooool kid, I don’t think they’re worth it. Seems to me like they’re just a poor man’s Elite/Choice or Brainwavz…
Brainwavz —> Earpadz… see a connection?
Dunno bout that one man. I mean they are budget for sure but I never tried them yet.
Ok I might’ve overreacted… the Midnight series does look like a better alternative to the platinum series and the Jerzee series is interesting… The weaves on those velours pads look like the weaves on the Sundara’s Pali pads…
