I am working on building my bottlehead s.e.x. 3.0 CS4 amp, which is going to be paired with a geshelli labs ENOG2. Right now I am looking for a great pair of pleasurable cans. Currently I have DT880 600ohms and a Focal Elex. Music is highly detailed(classical, electronic, indie rock), some fun, some a bit more ambiguous in quality(black metal, death metal). I’m looking for something that is an amazing all rounder that is punchy with great highs and bass, while not lacking in mids. Budget is reasonable, sub 1.5k.
My go-to recommendation that excels at all fronts and synergizes well with tube setups is the ZMF Auteur. It is a great all-rounder, it has great punch and bass extension. It doesn’t let back on the details on top.
I think it does the best at timbre and spatial recreation. Again, it plays well with tubes too.
Give your 880 another try when you finish your bottlehead build. I am sure that will sing quite nicely too!
