Been researching preamps since I need one now that I own multiple amps.
Amps I have:
Schiit Jotunheim
THX 887
Violectric v280
I am wanting to connect them all to one Dac, my Schiit Bifrost 2 but need a preamp to do it.
I found the MapleTree LR 1 Pro Line Router that looks pretty good for what I want, but would really like a controller if possible. Also have seen the Schiit Freya S and it looks pretty good.
Don’t want to go over $600 for a Preamp.
Any suggestions?
I own both a Saga + and Freya S. The Saga is great for the money and gives you slight tube effect. The Freya S is simply transparent - exactly what I want from a preamp. Plus they both have stepped attenuators which to me is a must in a volume control - no L/R imbalance. I expect the Saga S to be 90% of the Freya S. Although it’s now sold out and discontinued, it can be had used for around $230 (the best bargain in preamps ever). If balanced out is a must then obvious choice is Freya which you can get for ~$600 used.
Do you need the functionality of a preamp? Cause you can use the passthrough of the 887 and a two way switch for the other two amps. If you need a volume control as well then the Saga looks like a good option. I was considering it but couldn’t justify the cost
