As the titles says, I am looking for an IEM that I can wear underneath construction style hearing protection to pump in music or a metronome while I drum.
I won’t be using these for critical listening by any means but I would like something with detail and separation. I will need to be able to head the drums within whatever music I am listening to. I do find a lot of treble harsh and fatiguing to listen to so I suppose something a bit more neutral or dark would be more pleasant to wear for multiple hours straight.
I own the Elex, 6XX, and DT770 80 ohm and love them all if that gives you a sense of my taste.
I’m open to wireless/true wireless offerings so long as they are low profile and small enough to comfortably fit underneath hearing protection without an annoyingly long stem or downward facing cable that gets in the way. If wired I’m hoping for something that wraps up over top of the ear.
I have heard good things about the Sennheiser IE 100 pro’s and some of the Moondrop offerings but I haven’t actually been able to try any of them in person.
I live in Canada so some products may be harder to get than in the US, I’m hoping to keep the cost under 200 CDN.
do you have any earbuds atm? hearing protection generally pushes on your ears a little. the combo might be painful fairly quickly having earbuds underneath the protection.
I somehow didn’t know about these until after I bought my original set of 770’s and I felt bad about buying another set of basically the same headphones but that is definitely an option worth considering. I was hoping that because I already own some construction over ear protectors that this would be a cheaper way to accomplish the same thing.
I am quite confident that any not extremely large IEM would fit under the protectors. I would start from something cheap like KZ DQ6, CCA CRA or similar below 30$
