Looking for an upgrade, any advice?

Hi! I’ve been looking to replace my worn out m50x’s that I bought over 4 years ago. I have around £350 to spend on a new set.
I don’t have too many requirements but I need them to be closed back. I’ll primarily be using them for gaming and listening to music.
I recently invested in a headphone amp (JDS LABS El Amp II) and I’ve been eyeing up the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 pro’s but does anyone have any other suggestions? I appreciate any feedback!

I’ve heard good things about the 1770 Pro’s but some people say the treble can be harsh - if you are sensitive to that. What kind of music do you listen to? Do you like/prefer a certain sound signature?

I’m pretty new to high end audio so my knowledge is pretty limited here, I listen to a relatively large range of music, electronic, rock, and a little bit of mainstream pop. I definitely like a strong bass sound but not overpowering. Good imaging is ideal!

I would second the dt1770 is a tad harsh. Although if you are ok with the m50x its only slightly harsher so its still kind of ok. Is there a reason why you want closed back though?
Noisy environment?

Anyways if you like a strong bass with good imaging and soundstage closed back i can recomend the ath-a990z.

Still is there anything you would like to change to the m50x

I am a big fan of my m50x’s, I do quite like their sound, I’m just looking for more detail and a better overall sound. Closed back is ideal since I don’t want my mic to pick up my headphones if I have them a little too loud, my room isn’t always the quietest either.

How big is your ration between gaming:music? Which get more time for you?

I’d say 75% gaming, 25% music in time spent but both are equally as important.

Its kind of hard with one data point. Does amazon.co.uk allow return abuse?

I should be able to return the headphones if they aren’t what i’m looking for, that’s probably a good idea!

Going to guess that the 177x go isn’t attainable?

I don’t know if it’s good for gaming, but the Meze 99s get lots and lots of love on the forums.
