Then you might want to stick to the eikon/auteur lol, as the atticus is pretty similar to the aeolus imo
Will do, another thought. This headphone I am looking at buying right now I am wanting it to be good for EDM, have nice Bass, Warm Mids, and still have great highs without being too bright, as I am sensitive to it which is why I donāt like the DT990s, too bright. You still think Eikon is the best buy? If so Iām all about it as your recommendations have only been good so far.
From what you describe the eikon does seem like a good match imo
I guess other options to consider might be a th900 mk2 sapphire if you could find one, but it might be harder. An audio technica ath awas is pretty nice but might lack impact and extension in the bass for your tastes. I think for now, the eikon makes the most sense, and also would be most likely easy to sell if needed. Other options I would mention would most likely be too far out in price, be a mismatch with the amps you have, or might end up replacing or being not different enough from the arya
Got it, appreciate the input. Yeah, Iām not really one for Audio Technicaās as they can be too bright for me, and I heard the Th900 Mk2 is bright as well. Eikon here I come.
So the awas is a warmer can actually (an outlier for audio technica), pretty smooth and enjoyable, not that bright, but I donāt think it has as impactful bass as the eikon
The th900 mk2 is indeed bright, but the sapphire edition is a warmer more thick tuning that gives it more midrange and bass, and reduces the treble a bit. The sapphire is a different tuning that was created to address the concerns from the stock mk2 tuning
I do agree though that the eikon is a solid choice in this case
Gotcha, that must have been where I was mixed up before about the Th900. I am seeing a lot of people say that the Auteur is just a better upgrade vs the Eikon and how it does almost everything better. Do you have any experience with the Auteur as well?
Thatās pretty strange, they are a similar headphone with a bit different signature, and perhaps a bit bigger state on the auteur and more impact on the eikon. From my experience there wasnāt a big difference in technicalities, perhaps people are equating more neutral = more technically proficient? I think it really comes down to preference of signature as both headphones are fairly equally capable imo
that happened to me with my hifiman too. something about them just really lets all the noise creep inside, dynamics in my experience are able to at least block some noise from getting in (to an extent)
Awww crap. I have started to go down the ZMF Verite Closed rabbit hole, and people seem to be saying only good things about them. Wondering on thoughts on it.
Itās pretty sweet, but you would be making a jump to a tier of headphone higher than what you have heard before imo. It does sound up your alley although it is a bit less impactful than the eikons but itās pretty awesome. I personally prefer a nice tube amp with it but it can sound good on the vio stuff
Oh no, I was hoping you were going to talk me out of it, but dang, itās looking sweet. And dare I say, End-Game closed back? I know you donāt like that word, but $2.5k for em sounds like it to me. Do you know what they excel in? Iām still researching.
I donāt think end game but for most itās a pretty reasonable stopping point lol
Speed, separation, detail that doesnāt fatigue, and the staging is normal width but lots of depth and space between instruments, also timbre is pretty great. Very enjoyable tuned headphone.
Something I would say though is hold off on this one, at this range, you really want to have what you want nailed down, and you would most likely be going even higher on your signal chain afterwords as well. For now I would just continue on the path of the eikon and stick with that and also wait for your source chain upgrades
Regardless of term or not, Verite Closed will certainly be TOTL if you like the ZMF house sound. I own an Auteur atm and the VC will likely be my end game closed as well. Keep in mind that you will likely be upgrading your electronics as well, especially since you will be working with multiple high-end headphones at this point.
I also find that ZMF really excels in very accurate 3-D sound stage, imaging, and timbre. If those three things are important for you, then maybe it will be your cup of tea.
Dang the V280 isnāt good enough for them?
I think you would want to look for stuff like the cayin ha-6a, linear tube audio mz3, pass labs hpa-1, or others
For a dac you would want to consider going for something like a lampizator amber 3 or something like an audio note dac 0.1x
Of course the v280 would work nicely with them, but this is if you want to maximize what it can do. This is going to be the case for most of the headphones in the ~3k range, the eikon and arya are a fair bit less picky in that range
I feel like for me, it would be smarter to buy the headphone. Keep going with the V280 and Bifrost 2 for a while, then, if I really like the headphones, upgrade the Amp/Dac again in the future. Since I just sold my Aeolus I have a hole in my headphones and I am craving another.
I mean you can but just spend some time thinking what way you want to go in terms of sound
Will do, as I am still researching. Thanks
I know the rush to the top is appealing, but this is one of those things where imo the journey is the fun (and important) part lol
