Fair enough, that makes sense. Something to consider then would be stepping up to an eikon (for more fun and also more isolation) or an auteur (for more neutral a bit more open sound similar openness to the aeolus), imo a big step forward in performance, also it works well with the violectric. It’s not going to be as smooth and relaxed as the aeolus, but it will be a big step forward in detail, organic impact, spatial recreation, and refinement imo. Timbre is also great. It’s forwardness is pretty neutral
Dang, Zach offered me a cheaper Auteur when I first bought from him since they didn’t have the wood I wanted on the cups and I turned it down since everybody was telling me the Aeolus was the better buy. How much different is the Eikon/Auteur from the Aeolus and are those the best at what they do in that price range?
Pretty different imo, I kinda just flat out prefer the eikon/auteur myself. I kinda find the aeolus a bit too oversmoothed and lacking on a technical level for the price you pay for them. It’s really hard to say best for anything, but imo the eikon auteur are very good at what they do. I think they are very organic sounding in presentation, spatial recreation, impact, and timbre, just very natural and pleasing headphones that can get pretty fun without lacking on a technical level. In your case you might want to get the eikon since those are a bit warmer and more fun, and would give you some isolation for the fans and noise when you need it
Isnt the Eikon just a closed back version of the Aeolus, and vice versa? Or is that the Atticus
The Atticus is the closed back version of the aeolus, the eikon is the closed back version of the auteur. Imo zach makes very good closed backs as they don’t really sacrifice much by going closed
The reasons I recommend the eikon over the auteur in this case is the isolation, and also the warmer more fun tuning that I think would better compliment the arya in a collection imo
Does the bass slam, and would they be good for EDM? Sorry, the Arya’s have reminded me how much I like EDM and Bass in my music too.
I think they do imo, it’s got very organic impact and slam (thick, meaty, longer decay, timbre on point, more like a natural type of bass), pretty enjoyable. It would be different type of slam and bass than the arya, but I think it would be a welcome one. Most biodynamic headphones are this way and the eikon does not disappoint
Welp, time to go spend more money again… My bank loves when you reply to me btw.
Ah well I would hold off a bit lol, make sure you want to commit to that first and make sure you are still enjoying the arya. I guess if you ordered from zach though you could start the waiting process
Yeah, I always research for about a week or more before buying anything, and make sure it is what I really want. So I plan on doing the same now for the Eikon. Appreciate it.
Welp, a friend just bought my Aeolus already. Lol, you think the Eikon should have the Magnesium Chassis option for $250 more?
Wheelin and dealin I see
I think it’s worthwhile for the weight savings imo and also potentially better resale value, but it’s not necessary or anything
I didn’t bother with the magnesium chassis on my Eikon, and I don’t regret it.
Do you notice the weight on it at all? Is it heavy? I wasn’t bothered by the Aeolus weight.
I think all of the models do a good job at distributing the weight well. As long as you don’t bob your head or anything, it’ll be a comfortable experience like your Aeolus.
Yeah, pretty much
I have also heard that the Atticus is better for EDM, and Pop, where Eikon is better for Jazz, Classical, and instrumental. I listen to a good bit of Pop, EDM, Rock, and Japanese.
So do you find the aeolus good for edm and pop?
It’s about the same as the Aeolus, my ironwood Verites are obviously heavier, and they have the magnesium chassis.
I thought I did, but the Arya does them better. Probably the speed of the Planar with the bass.
