Looking for cinematic/epic sound

Hello!

I’m looking for recommendations under $500 for a good movie/adventure game experience. I have two little ones so I have to bench my surround sound. I have 6xx’s, but I’d like something that gives a more “epic” feel to what I’m playing/watching. I do enjoy the 6xx for music, but I want something that hits a little harder. Open back preferred, but not required.

Thanks all!!

Dang it’s hard to think of something that’s fits the bill as much as the elex. Used you can find it for 550. It fits the bill perfectly imo, it reminded me of speakers because of how dynamic it was and because of the slam. It’s suuuuuper immersive and engaging. Its presentation is definitely pretty immersive in comparison to most gear. Hits really hard, honestly if you can manage stretching the budget just by a bit more I would say it fits the bill perfectly

If you are in the US, you might be able to find the iBasso SR2 for around $550.

When I think of cinematic, I think of: immense, bass that reaches rumbling levels, more intimate presentation (slightly forward).

500 bucks isn’t a whole lot for this type of sound signature, but you will find many open-back headphones in this price range. By “open-back” I am referring to headphones that have a very airy sound signature and are immersive. “Immersive” is definitely not what I think of when cinematic is mentioned — unless you are talking about a home-theater speaker setup. But maybe it is because when I think of immersive headphones, I think of headphones with a large soundstage, I don’t think of rumbling bass and forward presentation.

This is the only headphone that I can recommend based on personal experience, but you can continue your search and see what pleases your ears.

Argons, or modded T50RP with the Argon or Alpha Dog pads. Very dynamic sound, great soundstage without feeling too airy, great bass slam.
