Straight to the point, my sister is a piniest and shes has a Yamaha e-piano, and she hates the stock phones…she wants better. Clean, accurate sound, nothing special or V shaped. Given that the sound is very spacial…a piano, whats good option $200 or under? Shes using the dac/amp built into the piano (its probably crap), so if you suggest something that works better with a bit more power, please let me know. I low-key want a Modi/Magni stack for it as well, it might happen, idk.
Any thoughts? Thnx.
Sennheiser 58x I’d imagine. Or the new hd 560s

Philips SHP9500s can be a good set of headphones for those type of music as well, I mean from time to time I listen to some tracks that involves a lot of piano as its main instrument and I love the detail I hear frrom the SHP9500s. Also, they are affordable and too good for its current price.
I am not a pianist but going off what i see…
Lara is a very high level pianist, her youtube which im linking shouldnt fool you as it is a lot of video game covers (done beautifully!) But she is using a Senn 600 something series, i am bad at picking the exact model out. I would think that or the 560s would be prime headphones.
I’ve got both HD58X and SHP9500, both of which I’m making her try out. I was hoping for something more exotic, like HE 4XX or DT880, but we’ll see. After looking at her piano, there is only a 1/4" audio out, and its amp sucks (i tried it with my M40X…it was bad!!)…its gonna need a Magni for sure!
I was curious about the HE4XX, DT990 or DT880 (can a Magni push the 250ohm?). I’m letting her decide if she wants open or closed, which will help the decision process a lot obviously. I’m familiar with Sennheiser, LOVE their mid range, they are obviously a win in my book. I’m just trying to broaden my options at this point.
For piano a headphone that should be able to reach the whole piano’s range is the he 400i/4xx more specifically with a planar’s ability to have a super flat quick but a bass response that can dig all the way to the subbass without being bloated., another good choice would be the dr 880 600 ohm super neutral detailed and when pushed with a proper amp really good for your purposes. The magni3+ or heresy should be able to push the 600 ohm to a good listening level even loud.
It can push 600 ohm beyerdynamics decently well.
Thats what I wanna hear, an excuse to buy planars! lol
Awesome, I probably wont go 600 ohm, or if I did I probably would get something better than Magni.
I REALLY liked the Blon B20 for Piano and acoustic jazz.
Hi
You can go for Tascam TH-02 I am using it for 10 months and its results are great. I am using it for my digital piano.
I hope your sister will love them.
If y’all are still looking, and are willing to go $20 over, 5XX is probably the best I’ve heard for listening to piano. Would suggest a bit of umph behind them though.
