Ye I was thinking the same, unless one really likes warm sound
I personally think the 58x is a step up imo
Buy all mine from Ali Express usually trn or yinyoo
Imo if you live in the US there is no reason to really but the 599 cause the 58x is better but if you live outside of the US and don’t wanna deal with massdrop the 599 is one of the better alternatives
How would a btr5 and a set of tin T2 compare versus the more expensive and more versatile stack we’ve been talking about (atom, d10, 4xx and/or 58x)
Not really comparable it’s a good starter setup and the btr5 is powerful and Versaile but the t2 holds back the setup imo. If you just got the btr5 and grabbed a 58x or a 599 that would be more comparable
I’m down to deal with Drop was just curious since the 599 is close in price to the 58X
Yeah. If I’m not careful I’ll end up spending alllll my money on this stuff…I like fancy new toys too much. Can you give me a little more about the btr5? Specifically vs the atom I guess
The atom has more power and is most likely the better amp imo. The btr5 can only really compete using it’s balanced output (as the single ended one is most likely not as good) so that would mean dropping like 45 bucks a piece for a balanced cable for the 58x and the 4xx. Also the 4xx really likes power, and not many portable amps can deliver that power without going pretty high up in price imo. For iems, the btr5 is actually probably better than the atom because of the balanced output and probably lower noise floor. I have a btr5 on the way, but I haven’t heard it yet so I can’t give you a definite answer
You think it’s because of the ESS chipset?
(M100 has an AKM chipset).
Probably, I also think it’s the output stage as well
Awesome so I now get to convince my wife that I need to spend even more money…
I think if you are looking for headphones, the d10 + atom would be a better choice imo until you get stuff figured out
What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.
I agree especially as the atom will be both clean enough to let you judge your headphones as well as powe a wide range of them. A note on the d10 tho. Anything usb only is a pain due to drivers no idea how good or widely comparable the topping drivers are.
Hmmm any other suggestions then?
And the IEM discussion begins…sorry for your wallet!
I personally didn’t like the Tin T2 as I thought the treble was unnatural sounding and grainy/compressed. The bass was non existent. Each to their own, but the T2’s popularity actually baffles me. They sounded just awful to me.
I have yet to be more impressed than I was when I bought the Ikko OH1. IEMs normally are a fit nightmare for me. The Ikko fit perfectly and I love the sound signature. Only complaint is I wish they had better soundstage, which is an issue for most IEMs.
considering you are eventually getting speakers it really seems like the atom is the way to go. everyone loves it and considers it the best at the price, there is probably no one that dislikes it.
the bass is pretty ok, it’s not something to write about but it did it’s job specially with foam tips. the only problem i had with them is the timbre of voices, sometimes could sound a bit unnatural. besides that it’s very well rounded. and yeah man soundstage is probably the main issue for iems
Probably Oppenheimer.
